    Talbot Auto
    Repair
    Sept 1/22
    Thursday
    8:30am – I took
my Chevy Venture 2005 to Talbot auto Service – 670 Talbot Ave – to get services
because the ABS light has been on for quite some time (about 2 weeks ago).
    1:52pm – the
owner/manager (Dev) of Talbot Auto calls me and says he has the car on the
hoist and needs to replace the driver side front hub. He will order the part
and it should be ready in 2 hours. I told him to go ahead and do the repair.
    Around
4:30pm – My wife and I go there to pick up the car. When we get there (just
before 5:00pm) we see the car is still on the hoist. My wife drops me off because
she has to do some errands. I go inside the shop office and wait. I waited for
    a t least 30 to 45 minutes.
    Around 5:30
    – 5:45pm – The van is brought down from the hoist. The mechanic drives it
outside on the parking lot and then drives it back to the garage and onto the
hoist again. The mechanic then comes in the shop office and says the ABS light
is still on. He says he and the owner want to keep the car for another day because
they think it’s an electrical issue with the wiring. He also says that I can
take the car home now, but the ABS light will still be on. At that point, I’m
thinking the car should have been ready by now. So, I decide to leave my car
with them to finish the repair. I call my wife and tell her the van isn’t ready
and for her to pick me up. While I was waiting in the shop office I couldn’t
help notice when my van was on the hoist, they were lifting it up and bringing
it down several times at least 4 to 5 times. I wasn’t sure what the purpose of
    that was.
    Sept 2/22
    Friday
    Around 2:38pm
the owner calls me on my cell, but I didn’t get to answer the call in time and
so I call him back. He says the car is ready for pick up.
    Around
3:30pm – My kids and I drive there. When we get to Talbot Auto, I see my van is
parked in the parking lot. I go to the shop office, make the payment $320.00
cash, the owner hands me the keys. I get inside the car, put the key in the
ignition but it won’t turn. I try moving the steering wheel back and forth to
see if I can unlock the steering wheel, but nothing happens. I’m thinking what
did they do to my car? I go inside the shop office and tell Dev that the key
won’t turn. He comes out and tries to do it himself, nothing happens. After
several tries, he gets another mechanic to try and start the car and still
nothing. The mechanic then sprays WD40 into the keyhole. He then places the key
inside and tries to turn it. Nothing happens again. The mechanic then asks me
has this ever happened before. I told him this has never happened before. There
was no issue with starting the ca before I brought it in here.
    The mechanic
suggest it might be the key that’s causing the problem. He asks if I have a
spare key? I said I have one but it’s at home – my wife has the other key. Can
you get the other key while we try to fix this problem, he tells me. My kids
and I go hone and return back with the spare key. The mechanic tries the spare
key and still the key won’t turn. They get another helper from the garage to
try and start the car and still it will not turn. By this time, I called my
wife and tell her that this is unacceptable. She is not happy either and very
upset and tells me to tell the owner that they should fix this issue and that we
wouldn’t have to pay for anything else. I am frustrated and cannot believe this
is happening. I tell Dev that he has to do something about this. He says he can’t
do anything right now and it is not his problem that the car will not start. He
says he will try to get someone to come and fox it in the next day, but we will
have to pay for the repair.
    Earlier in
the day, Dev told me the car was ready for pick up – obviously it wasn’t. It is
now undriveable. I asked him how did this happen? His mechanic says because the
car is old it is normal for the car to do this. I told him again this has never
happened before, and that the car was in good condition before I brought it in.
It has no issues with the starter or the key not turning.
    Around 6:00
    – 6:30pm with no resolution I told Dev something has to be done about this. My
kids and I are going home I told him. Before we left the hop, my kids and I
took all the belongings that were inside the van and placed them in my daughter’s
car. I did not want anything stolen in case my car go vandalized since I was
leaving the van outside at Talbot Auto’s parking lot overnight.
    So that evening
my wife and I decide to file a claim with MPI.
    Sept 3/22
    Around 8:30
    – 9:00am -My wife and I along with our neighbour drive back to the shop and we
see the van inside the garage – Dev says they pushed the van inside the garage.
I asked him again if he is willing to fix this problem without me having to pay
for it. Again, he says no I cannot do that. I told him that it wasn’t our fault
and that they’ve had the car since I brought the car in. My wife and I decide to
get the van towed away. We call MPI to make arrangements to tow the van away.
1:20pm – MPI tows the van away and takes it to Plessis compound. MPI says they
will call mew once they finish doing an estimate and that I will get a call
from an adjuster (Lana) on Sept 22.22 at 7:30am.
    Sept 6 –
Sept9/22 MPI still hasn’t called me about the estimate.
    Sept 10/22 –
I call MPI to follow up. MPI said they have not looked at my car yet. I told
    them to bring it to *** ******** **** **** ******* **** ** ********** once it
    has been estimated.
    Sept 12/22
10”21 am – the adjuster (Lana) calls me and says they have decided they will
not cover any expenses because the car was not stolen, vandalized or did not catch
on fire.  She says it is a mechanical failure.
I told her the car did not have any problems that was related to the starter or
the ignition or the car key for that matter. But she insisted that there was
nothing they can do. The only thing they can do is to tow the van away to *** ******** ******* **** ** ********** ****** as a courtesy.
    Sept 12/22 –
    *** ******** ******* **** ******* ******* call me and says they will have to
diagnose the van and determine the cause of the key not turning before they do
    anything.
    Sept 16/22 –
Service adviser ***** calls me and says that the ignition cylinder needs to be
repaired and replaced. They have to disassemble the steering column and drill
out the ignition lock cylinder assembly. Clean the lock cylinder housing and
inspect. Replace and the code ignition lock cylinder and reassemble steering column.
    Sept 20/22 –
Service Adviser ***** says they finally got the car to start, however, the ABS
light is still on. He says Talbot Auto Service did not repair the job and it
was done incorrectly. (Talbot Auto Service – Dev, the owner and manager said he
had fixed it by replacing the front driver side hub and fixed some wiring
issues). According to the service Adviser at *** ******** *****, he says the
left front hub was installed in the wrong position. The wire brake and tied
down wheel speed sensor on left side was making poor contact – and needs to be
replaced. Right side wheel speed sensor wire was also making poor contact –
needs to be replaced as well. They have to remove and reinstall left front hub
bearing assembly. Replace left and right front wheel speed sensor harness.
Splice into existing chassis harness and sell all connections. Apply di-grease
to terminal connections, then road test vehicle.
    This ABS
repair cost me another $934.29 on top of the $320.00 which I paid Talbot Auto Service
for the ABS repair that they claim was done properly but wasn’t done right in
    the first place!!!!

    October 3, 2022,
    Monday 8:45am
    My wife and
I went to Talbot Auto to ask Dev if he can refund us the money we spent on the
ABS since the repair they had done did not fix the problem. *** ******** had
stated that the ABS repair did not fx the problem and the ABS light was still
on, also the repair job that Talbot Auto had done was of poor quality. We informed
Dev what *** ******** had said about the ABS repair, but Dev refused to refund
us the money we paid him. We told him we will take him to small claims court if
he does not give us some kind of compensation but he said to give him a week to
talk to his lawyer whether or not he should refund us our money, (until oct 10).
It is now Oct 12 and we haven’t heard from Dev. Dev has also accused us of
misusing the key in the ignition and that’s why it might have caused the
problem with the key not turning in the ignition. So he accused us of causing
the problem with the ignition from the time he brought the van off the hoist
and into the parking lot (a span of 2 hours) where we had damaged the ignition.
Beth my wife has the video evidence of this conversation.
    Resolution:
I would like to get a refund back of $200.00 for the labor Dev charged me. The repair
that he claimed was fixed regarding the ABS light was not done properly.
    My
complaint about Talbot Auto Service, 670 Talbot Avenue Winnipeg, Manitoba R2L
0S1, Dev (Manager – I don’t know his last name) is a number of items:
On Sept 1/22 when Dev told me my car would be ready in 2 hours after ordering and replacing a part (Front driver’s side hub) and it wasn’t because the light was still on and then telling me that I can take it home – but the ABS light will still be on.
On Sept 2/22 after telling me the car is ready for pick up – after he di some wire fixing? I went there 2 hours later to pick up the car, only to find out that the car ley will not turn in the ignition and start the car. Dev is telling me it’s an ignition problem or a key issue?? I find that hard to believe when the car started when I took it to Talbot Auto Repair Shop. Dev even drive it for a test ride I’m assuming and parked it in the lot. Unless the car was already undriveable, and they pushed the car outside from the garage?
The receipt that they gave me did not indicate what repair he did regarding the wires? All it said on the receipt was ABS wire fix?
