The battery on my ********* *** ******* ** Tablet was swelling, so I brought it into BC Computers on Oct 21st to have the battery swapped out and the warped screen replaced.

The tablet worked just fine, and had no problem holding a charge, I was just concerned that the swelling battery might damage it if left unchecked.

On Oct 23rd, they quoted me $230 (plus tax) and 2-5 days for the repair, and told me it was an easy and routine repair.

I was informed of a delay on Oct 27th.

It was eventually repaired Nov 1st, and I paid $257.60 to '**** *****' for the device on Nov 2nd.

The tablet would not hold a charge, and immediately shut down as soon as it was disconnected from the cable, so I brought it back to the store immediately.

They had, apparently, not bothered to test it before giving it back to me.

I did not hear from them again for more than a week, on Nov 11th, when I was informed they were 'still working on the device'.

I tried to contact them again, on Nov 16th, but received no response until Nov 18th, when I was told that new batteries were being delivered and would arrive Nov 21st.

I heard nothing back, and tried to contact them on Nov 26th, and asked for a refund.

They did not reply until Nov 29th, asking for the ticket number, as if I was a stranger and we hadn't been exchanging texts for weeks.

I replied that I wanted the tablet, and my money back, and at this point they stopped texting me entirely.

I tried going to the shop to get the tablet back, and was told it wasn't there.

It wasn't until Dec 2nd that they permitted me to check on the device, which now wouldn't hold a charge or startup properly (something that wasn't an issue before it was given to them).

They continue to refuse to offer a refund, or admit any wrongdoing.

    What was promised: battery replacement for a mid-2014 ******* pro (******, 13-in)
Dispute: this battery replacement was NOT performed! The laptop still contains the old original battery.
Business's response: After contacting BC Computers, I was told to bring the laptop back to the store and to not have the laptop services by another repair shop. I agreed but told them that I had changed the laptop's cover myself. They said this is okay. When I took the laptop back, they claimed that I have a different laptop in hand. This is despite the fact that the serial numbers on the laptop perfectly match the receipt! I was told that they have proof of the repair, but they refused to show me this proof due to privacy reasons. As an option, I was told to pay an extra 68$ for them to replace the battery. Of course, I refused and took my laptop back.
BC Computer's code of conduct is flawed. They claim that they only use the serial number on the laptop cover as proof of serial number, despite the fact that the cover can be easily swapped by anyone! Therefore, they always have the option to tell customers that the serial number has been changed on a laptop. I even showed them the serial number of the computer in the system and on the motherboard, but they still suggested that the laptop has been replaced.

    Business Response

    Hello there,
The customer brought back a different machine from the one we replaced the battery after a month. Timing is not an issue but the customer brought a different computer with a no serial number on the back and complete different top case from the original one. We compared our photos of the machine and reviewed all the ticket notes and footage of the repair and we informed the customer the laptop is not the same as what he initially brought for service. The mismatched information led to cancel the warranty claim. It sees the customer swap the logicboard between two macbook to match the serial number but in our repair center we use camera to take a photo of the actual machine and write the top case serial number and battery for the record which in this case was mismatched with the macbook that customer brought for warranty. Please let me know if there is any questions or concerns.

    Regards,

    Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because: I told the business about changing the back cover during a phone call, during which they agreed that this will not be an issue. ALL the serial numbers on the computer match the serial number on the receipt. The business' problematic way of matching ONLY the back serial cover allows them to make the claim that the laptop has been swapped whenever they want! This is because the back cover contains the only serial number that can be replaced easily (and often for cosmetic reasons!). If the business truly has proof of this repair being done, they should provide this proof to either the customer (me) or a representative of BBB. So far, I have not received a single piece of concrete evidence from this business except their "word" that this repair has been completed!

    Sincerely,

I originally dropped my laptop off due to a faulty battery in September 2021. The battery would not hold a charge. The technicians told me the issue was solved within 3 days so I went to pick up the laptop. The issue was exactly the same showing they did nothing. I took the laptop back and they told me it needed a new battery and said they would not charge me any additional fee due to them not fixing it the first time. The battery took 3 months to arrive, so I ended up having to buy another laptop to use for school. Finally, I got the laptop back in November and used it until the problem started happening again in May. Since the repair came with a 1 year warranty I dropped it off to be fixed yet again on May 16th. It is now the end of August and I still don't have the laptop back, nor are they responding to any of my texts or contacting me with updates at all. Essentially they are holding the laptop and seemingly doing nothing to rectify the issue. My ideal outcome would be to take my laptop back and get a refund as they have had my laptop for over 6 of the last 12 months and don't seem to be doing anything to fix it. I have moved cities and will have to go to Vancouver just to pick it up. Attached is the warranty ticket as I am not sure where the original receipt is.
