On June 22, ****, 2 men from this company were spraying a toxic spray (********) on my next door neighbours cherry tree. The tree overhangs my yard. I was in my yard weeding with my 2 golden retrievers. They barked at the two strangers next door and I called them away. Shortly after that, the men, without saying anything to me, started spraying the tree. Quite a bit of spray came into my yard. I called my dogs so that they wouldn't get sprayed. After the spraying, I talked to one of the men, saying that he should have told me what they were doing before he sprayed. I suggested that it's probably unlawful not to. He said he didn't think there was a law. About 30 minutes later, I called the company and asked the woman who answered what they are spraying on cherry trees right now. She told me it was ********. I then told the woman about what happened and told her I was upset that they didn't say anything to me, even though I was right in plain view with my 2 dogs that had *********** at the men 2 minutes before. She told me that it is the property owner's responsibility to tell neighbors when they are spraying. I told her the neighbours were not home, and I repeated that I was right there in plain view and the guys could have just told me what they were doing. She then said, "I guess you should tell your neighbour to cut down their tree if it's on the property line." I don't know why she suddenly went in that direction, but I had been polite up until that point. I admit that I said some colourful things at that point and she hung up. I then looked up ******** to see if I had to do anything regarding my dogs. Turned out that ******** is very toxic and my dogs and I needed to avoid the sprayed area for 12 hours. If I had had contact with ******** I would need to wash my skin with warm soapy water for 15 to 20 minutes, then call poison control and seek their expertise. I am angry about the way I was treated, and the lack of necessary info I was given.

    Business Response

    Date: 26/07/2023

July 26/23  Response to **************************** is the neighbours responsibility who hired us to spray her Cherry tree to inform the neighbour that we will be spraying the tree on a certain date.

we always phone the person who hired us the night before that way she is informed so she can inform *********. The ministry of enviroment are the people who say what sprays are allowed in back yards not us. this gentleman was very rude on all occasions to the guys who spray.

he called the office to see what was being sprayed for the cherry tree so that worms do not get in the cherries. I told him ******** and he proceeded to get more upset by the moment and getting nastier by the moment. I asked him what he wanted me to do as we were doing everything correctly. Finally I said to him that he may want to speak to his neighbour and ask if they will cut down the tree. Then he started swearing more using the f--- word so I hung up on him. I am an employee not the owner I did tell him the owner could phone him but he was not interested he just wanted to yell at someone and that was me.

He is not a very nice person.

    Customer Answer

    Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

*************************** is not telling the truth about our conversation.  The only time I swore with her was in response to her saying to me, "Well I guess you should tell your neighbour to cut down their tree if it's on the property line."  That was her response to me suggesting that her company let neighbours know when they are going to be spraying into their yards. She then hung up on me.  She said nothing about her boss, or the owner calling me.  I would have welcomed that.  Anyway, I have no expectations that this will result in anything positive.  ****************** doesn't seem to be someone that is going to either admit to wrongdoing or change her ways.  It's the company that I was wanting to change their policy.  They really need to contact anyone whose yards they are going to be spraying into.  It's not okay for a company to spray a toxic chemical into my yard without notifying me.  The first time they sprayed, I was in my back yard with my dogs.  They only had to tell me what they were about to do, but they said nothing.   And it wasn't about drift.  They sprayed heavily into our yard in order to saturate the parts of the tree that overhung my yard. And It's not my neighbour's responsibility - they are not doing the spraying.  Nor did they know much about the chemical.  They didn't know that they needed to keep their own dog away from the area for 12 hours.

    Sincerely,

    *********************
