Our complaint pertains to a bathroom renovation, *********** 2023. The cost was about $45,000, paid in full on completion. We signed a contract on April 24, 2023 including a 2-year warranty. We received an email on July 19, noting a 1-year warranty only. We asked that the error be corrected; it wasntonly reiterated in an email on Sept 26. Our present complaint, however, is this: We informed the contractor (****) in October that there was a problem with the bathtub fixtures in one bathrooma problem attributable to the fact that new wall tile (through which the fixtures run) is a different thickness from the old (something we imagined would have been accounted for in the design: the designer ordered the new tile and **** owns a floor company specializing in tile installation. **** had encouraged us to hire his designer, at an added cost of $1700; her main job was to take precise measurements, as it had been agreed from the start that they would use as much of the ****************** as possible (shower enclosures, bathtub, toiletsand plumbing fixtures). When **** responded to our email, he said the problem was not his to solve. We requested a site visit. He sent the designer to our home. A few days after her visit, she wrote to say she had consulted with **** and This work is covered by the warranty. We were to supply new fixtures and **** would cover installation and wall-tile repair. We then asked their plumber to purchase the correct fixtures for us. Our cost was about $1200. (This is not money we would have spent in the absence of warranty assurances, as the bathtub is useable, if part of a fixture is removed.) On January 23, **** emailed to say, after thorough consideration, he had decided that ****** ******** would not cover this work. We responded to say that it seemed poor business ethics to change your mind about warranty coverage in mid-process. We said that we would wait a day to hear from him (weve waited two) and then file a BBB complaint.
