We gave contractor ****** certified cheque of $16000.00 on April 05, 2021 upon promising us a beautiful kitchen. We wanted to make our kitchen an open concept and more cabinets on the other side so he gave us a quote of 32000.00 including the counter and new sinks for 2 washrooms upstairs. ****** asked us to pay him 50% up front to order custom cabinets and counters and other things that he needed.We waited many months and he said delay is because of covid. Finally he told me after asking him many times that he is starting work in oct first week. He showed up 2nd week and did demolition of one dry wall and pantry and took off all existing cabinets leaving couple temporary/ shaky counters for me to cook for the time being. After Feb 2021 end he demanded more money in order for him to go pick up our Cabinets from his supplier which according to him is in Emomton. We refused to pay him anymore until we seen our kitchen delivered to us at least. That's also stated in his contract that he had made for us. He didn't provide me any copy of it but luckily I took a picture of it's last page where we all had signed.According to his contract we are to pay him more 25% upon delivery of cabinets and counters. He said his supplier need him to pay remaining balance for cabinets. We had paid him for all this in advnce 50%. When in other usual cases contracters gets paid after job is done. We agreed to him not knowing his real intentions. Now upon my inquiries about him of his work license I am learning that his contractor license was never valid when he signed with us last year or nor it is now. I was told by Service Alberta & municipality that he never had one. So then I had emailed him to cancel our contract with him after he denied about his license. I urge to get my refund from this guy let alone my mental state from last one year trying to deal with him and cooking in broken kitchen. That's minim I can expect $16000.00 so that I can hire someone else to complete our kitchen.
