The technician came out to fix a faucet. He was able to fix it but while he was fixing it he sat on the toilet seat and cracked it. After he left we discovered this and called the company to let them know. They sent the technician back to the house where he denied breaking it and got confrontational. He was asked to leave and we fixed it ourselves. NUMEROUS calls and emails to GEM have been made to try to speak with a manager or other higher up and we are always told that someone will call us, but no one has. This company used to be very reliable and I actually have an annual contract with them, but this will be the last year for that. They are far less reliable and I do not appreciate that no one takes our complaints seriously.

After careful review and discussing this with management we will be sending out reimbursement for the broken seat. We hope you allow us the opportunity to gain your business and trust back in the future. We genuinely apologize for your experience being less than our standard of  excellence.

I never used this contractor ever before but contacted GEM Plumbing & Heating about removing an old dishwasher and install a new one. they sent their plumbing workers to do the job. When they removed the old dishwasher without any problems but informed me the new install would require an electrical outlet to be installed so the new dishwasher would require a plug in connection and not an existing hard wire tie in like what existed. Therefore an electrician was needed to tie in the existing electrical wire by mounting an electrical box with a plug in outlet to supply power per code to the new dishwater. Would you believe that this electrical work was performed in less than an hour and the cost for this simple electrical job was $575. That is criminal. I see no justification how one can charge that amount. There should be a minimum charge instituted for simple jobs that take a hour or less around $200 or $250 maximum. As far as the final install of the new dishwater all went rather smoothly with no problems with the plumbers. However over $700 for their services sure seems extravagant for this job also. I feel GEM should reimburse me at least $300 for their pathetic pricing for this work at my expense.

Make yourself a favor and don't call this company for services. I called them because they claim to be the most experienced. I have a combi boiler that was heating my tap water for the faucet and shower and after 10 seconds of hot water will stop heating the water. Technician came and told me that the problem was the flow sensor and it will cost over 499$ I told him to fix it. He replaced it and we still have not hot water, after 2 minutes pass he said the problem was the pressure pump in the unit but it will cost $1,580.8 I asked him if he was sure that this was the problem and he told me I guaranteed that is the problem, I told him to replace it if that was the issue, he replaced it and we still have the same problem, his words were "oops! that didn't work" he got on the phone with the manufacturer and the manufacturer told him that was the 3 WAY VALVE issue. After 2 hours of waiting we had hot water and he said that I should try it for a couple days but only lasted 1 and half hours. Technician thought he fixed it. I called them immediately and they said I have to pay 499$ to replace the 3 WAY VALVE. I'm a very respectful person but it seems to me that they were guessing and changing parts at my expense. Which is a rip off. I spoke with a "manager" and explained the situation and told him that I was not refusing to pay but if he could please consider the price because the original problem was never fixed. And he said there was nothing he could do. There were others a unprofessional thing that were said but I don't want to make this review longer than what already is.

Unprofessional condescending maliciously compliant gaslighting technicians focused on up selling unnecessary work and annual memberships. I've had multiple service requests with dispatch fees where the main issue was not addressed or failed within a week or caused another issue within the system. I have had to replace drywall, repair, and repaint the walls around the system, because they have a handyman service who can fix it for a fee. Gaslighting from the gas repair man is ironic frustrating. The last service was man-splaining how a switch has an off position and an on position. How someone else could have messed up the system they installed. When called out , the technician just smirked and resorted to corporate speak "what could I have done differently for this visit?" You could own the work done and clean up you mess. They refused to answer or acknowledge the mess. *** is not worth the money the work is mostly done by younger individuals while the older ones walk around and write reports to cover their

They claim they offer upfront pricing. They do not. The tech finished the job without ever mentioning what he was doing or how much it would cost. The only time he mentioned the price was when he asked for a credit card upon completion of the job (which I didnt even know he had started). He was there less than 10 minutes, used no tools or materials and the bill was just under $400. When I called to ask how the tech came up with that price I was told that it was flat rate, upfront pricing. When I said that I was never told the price before the work was performed the manager was rude and condescending, and told me that I was lying. Horrible business.

Exhorbitant rates and price gouging. A $466 charge on a Sunday afternoon just to come out to my home and look and diagnose. I already knew pretty much what had to be done, as I had some of it done before about 10 years ago (replace water pressure relief and incoming valves and expansion tank - and now need replacement again due to use and lifetime on components - to be expected as maintenance) and other part I researched online (the spark ignitor as the gas furnace was not catching the spark to ignite and went into repeated cycles of trying to light itself) The guy from Gem did pretty much nothing yet I still get a charge for $466. The only thing he did was take out the spark ignitor and tried to clean it - after so many years of use I guess it had a bunch of soot buildup on it or something. But he didn't do much except pull it out and try to clean it and put it back. Parts would have had to be ordered. The whole job for everything was estimated to be about $2000. Gem will not be doing this work for that price. I then went looking aroung for other options. The guy that owns and operates the management company for my condo complex will be doing the work for about half the price. He and a couple of other guys have already done some work at my condo unit - replacing the front outside water faucet that was leaking. They seemed to do pretty well with that. This guy's brother I was told is a licensed plumber and I assume probably does most if not all this kind of work for the one that owns and runs the condo management company.

I initially called GEM to inspect my Central Air system. However, upon entering the garage to inspect the items, the gentleman noticed the water heater was outdated, the ** condenser unit outside was well beyond years (****). Although I did not have issues with the water tank, my central air system needed a replacement. I was very nervous because two of my neighbors experienced water damage because their hot water tank failed. My neighbors homes were in shambles not to mention the cost to repair wooden floors, etc.I am giving them 5 Stars because the crew arrived in a timely manner, were efficient and cleaned up after they completed the work. They were on site **** hours until finished. They also did an excellent job!!! You cannot afford to have a handyman do the repair when you want a licensed company that knows what their doing to complete the job. North Providence Resident

Warning - GEM applies outrageous ******** to their pricing. I had them quote two service items. In each case the actual part was around $100 delivered -and I got that price confirmed by the OEMs (very large and reputable companies) - but GEM quoted around $550-$850 for entire job, respectively. I spoke to each OEM about these pricing estimates and they said they have no explanation and justification for them and that they were simply usurious. All-in pricing should be somewhere around $150-250.I became skeptical right away when I saw the $550 quote because I typically paid around $150 from another HVAC company for one of the two items, which is required at the end of each winter season.I would avoid this company at all cost ("Life is too short" kind of thing), or only proceed based on having received a few quotes to hold them honest. That's difficult here, because their model is to have customer pay upfront a service fee so you are already out a lot of money just to give GEM an opportunity to price-gouge.

In 2008, Gem *********************************************** totally replaced my central heating and central air conditioning in my residence. Since that time Ive had continual VIP service contracts (aka: expensive $) with Gem to ensure my heating and cooling systems received proper service and maintenance. Until recently they have admirably serviced my cooling and heating systems in the Fall and Spring of each year.Last year, Gem dropped their expensive VIP service contracts and I was enrolled in a $300 annual service contract. I was assured that I could still have my heating and cooling systems serviced & maintained with this new service contract. Earlier this year, I scheduled the annual service/maintenance on the central air system. I was required to wait until Monday, 06/19/2023 for a visit by a Gem technician. I was told that if another customer canceled their appointment, I would be contacted for an earlier service call. That didnt happen but that isnt my complaint.Last Friday afternoon, (06/16/2023), I was contacted by the Gem call center and was told that they didnt have a technician available to complete my central air servicing and that I would have to be rescheduled for sometime in NOVEMBER 2023 (the next available appointment opening). Once again, I was told that if another customer canceled their appointment, I would be contacted for an earlier service call. I asked to speak with a supervisor and I was provided with that opportunity. The $300 annual service contract fee appears to be a SCAM unworthy of Gems business reputation. I explained to the Gem supervisor that my $300 service contact should be cancelled and they should provide me with a full refund. Clearly, Gem is not capable to servicing ********************************************* systems. One wonders if the owners of Gem *********************************************** are aware of the latest business practices being visited on their long-term customers.
