Extended Warranty Tips | BBB Trusted Advice™
Kasey Shirey of City Automall explains the Extended Warranty
Many people are wary of purchasing an extended warranty. Experience may have taught them that the policy will not cover the parts or systems they want to have covered. Because of the variety of price, coverage and exceptions, consumers need to ask their purchase advisor questions to be sure they are getting the warranty they need.
Compare the features covered by each warranty package with your vehicle. If your car has manual windows, you will not need a premium warranty that covers automatic window maintenance.
If you want to have your car retain value over time, having certain parts under warranty helps keep it in good condition. Indiana potholes can be brutal, easily bending or even breaking your wheel. Many modern wheels cost upwards of $600, which can make investing in a tire and wheel care warranty a good idea. Most modern engines come with a turbo; however, a typical powertrain warranty will not cover turbos. Consider purchasing a warranty that covers the turbo and other features that also need to remain in pristine shape.
If you have a rainy-day fund - or if you like to take risks - you may not want to pay every month for a warranty. But if a three- or four-thousand dollar repair would be unaffordable, a $25 or $30 warranty payment may be more feasible.
