The Better Business Bureau® Charitable & Educational Fund, Inc. serving the Canton Region and Greater West Virginia is excited to announce the scholarship winners in the sixth annual BBB Life Lessons Essay Contest.
BBB Life Lessons is a theme-based essay contest that challenges students to reflect on living a life with integrity and ethics. This year’s essay theme was the vital role that trust plays in the marketplace. There is no minimum GPA requirement to apply, and the funds can be used toward any type of post-high school education, including college, universities, trade schools, career, or technical schooling.
The contest is for graduating seniors located in the BBB serving the Canton Region and Greater West Virginia’s service area, which includes 12 counties in southeastern Ohio and 52 counties in West Virginia. Six scholarships were awarded, ranging from $500 to $2,500. Students from 63 schools submitted 132 essays.
- 1st place - Olivia Greathouse - Ripley High School - Ripley, WV
- 2nd place - Caelyn Unger - Trinity Christian School - Morgantown, WV
- 3rd place - Elijah Frame - Nicholas County High School - Summersville, WV
- 4th place - AnnaSophia Bates - Hoover High School - North Canton, OH
- 5th place - Alexis Proctor - Morgantown High School - Morgantown, WV
- 6th place - Lauren Durr - Jackson High School - Canton, OH
Teresa Fox, Chairperson of the BBB Charitable & Educational Fund, Inc., states, ”I was honored to present two of these promising scholars with their awards as the recipients of the Better Business Bureau serving the Canton Region & Greater West Virginia’s Life Lessons scholarship. Out of over one hundred student applicants, each of the winners rose to the top with their thoughtful essays on living a life of integrity and ethics in a period when ethics matters more than ever. Their futures are very bright!”
The BBB Charitable & Educational Fund’s Sr-2-Sr program awards the scholarships. This separate nonprofit entity was founded in 2012 by the Better Business Bureau serving Canton Region and Greater West Virginia to provide educational services to individuals ranging from high school seniors to senior citizens. The program focuses on how to be a savvy consumer and provides information on various types of scams and tips on how to avoid falling victim to scams.
