BBB of Eastern and Southwest Missouri and Southern Illinois: BBB revokes two firms’ BBB Accreditation for accreditation standards violations

Better Business Bureau® (BBB®) St. Louis revoked BBB Accreditation of Quality Handyman of Chester, Illinois, and American Concrete Services of House Springs, Missouri, for violating BBB’s Accreditation Agreement. BBB’s Executive Committee took these actions on January 24, 2023, upon the recommendation of its Standards and Compliance Committee.
BBB contacted Quality Handyman on several occasions between May 2, 2022, and January 3, 2023, regarding a consumer complaint that alleged inferior workmanship and failure to make repairs. The company did not make a good-faith effort to resolve the complaint and did not agree to arbitrate the dispute. BBB asked Quality Handyman for its resignation as a BBB Accredited Business, but the company did not provide it.
BBB contacted American Concrete Services, LLC, on numerous occasions between April 18, 2022, and January 3, 2023, regarding a consumer complaint that alleged inferior workmanship, failure to make repairs and failure to contact the consumer. The company did not make a good-faith effort to resolve the complaint and did not agree to arbitrate the dispute. BBB asked American Concrete Services, LLC, for its resignation as a BBB Accredited Business. The company offered its resignation after the deadline established by BBB’s Standards and Compliance Committee; thus, the company’s BBB Accreditation was revoked.
BBB Accredited Businesses are required to respond to customer complaints and BBB inquiries, make a good faith effort to resolve complaints, arbitrate disputes if requested and honor arbitration decisions. Failure to do so is considered prejudicial to the best interests of BBB and private enterprise.
The revocation of BBB Accreditation status is unfortunate. However, BBB takes enforcement of its standards very seriously. Applicants for BBB Accreditation also must meet BBB standards and can be denied BBB Accreditation if they fail to comply.
BBB Standards of Accreditation are designed to offer consumers confidence before they make purchasing decisions. Consumers are urged to go to BBB.org to search for BBB Business Profiles or find contact information for their local BBB.
