Better Business Bureau® (BBB®) is warning consumers to exercise caution when doing business with Agogie Inc., a St. Louis-based online athletic apparel company.
Key concerns reported to BBB:
- Missing or delayed products
- Unprocessed returns and no refunds
- Inaccessible customer service
- Overall poor service experience
Agogie Inc. currently holds an “F” rating—BBB’s lowest—due to unresolved complaints and unanswered inquiries. Customers from 19 states have filed complaints about Agogie, which sells athletic wear featuring built-in resistance bands.
Customer experiences reported to BBB:
- A Virginia woman paid $400 for three leggings; received only one. She said she couldn’t reach the company and had to secure a refund via chargeback.
- A Minnesota customer spent $104 on elbow sleeves that never arrived. After failed contact attempts, she gave up on recovery.
- A Tennessee man returned a $113 item but never received a refund. “There has been no response or outreach from the company,” he reported.
Business background:
- Formed as Agogie LLC in March 2017; became Agogie Inc. in May 2022 with a Delaware registry.
- Owned by Aaron Mottern.
- In a response to a BBB pattern of complaints letter, the business stated “while these cases represent a minuscule portion of our overall transactions, we recognize the importance of addressing every concern promptly. To that end, we have implemented system upgrades to improve refund processing and enhance communication around pre-orders and exchanges.”
- Additional BBB outreach to Agogie Inc. and Mottern was unsuccessful.
Consumers are urged to review businesses carefully before making online purchases, especially with emerging brands.
BBB offers these tips on how to avoid online shopping problems:
- Research any business and its owners before paying any money. Check the company’s BBB Business Profile at BBB.org or by calling your local BBB.
- Be wary of sales or prices that seem too good to be true. In many of these cases, the items do not exist or are of poor quality.
- Read all terms and conditions before completing a purchase. Make sure to understand expected delivery dates and refund policies. Know your options in case you receive an item that was not as advertised.
- Pay by credit card whenever possible in case you need to challenge the payment.
- Check a site’s security settings. If the site is secure, its URL (web address) should start with “https://.” You also may see a picture of a small, closed lock in the lower right-hand corner of the screen.
- If you have a complaint, make sure to file it at BBB.org and with your state’s attorney general’s office.
