BBB of North Central Texas Warning: Dallas based photographer takes deposits for services never rendered

Dallas, TX October 5, 2022 - The Better Business Bureau of North Central Texas is warning consumers about Olivia Seymour Photography, a wedding and family photographer based in Collin County Texas. BBB in Dallas conducted an investigation after receiving a spike in complaints against the photographer in August earlier this year.

Complaints allege the company takes the deposit ranging from $300 to $800. They use Zelle or Venmo and fail to show up, subcontract the work to another photographer, or just quits responding to the consumer prior to the event. The company has not responded to complaints and currently has an F rating with Better Business Bureau.

In situations where she subcontracts the work to other photographers, some have told BBB they were never paid.

“This particular situation is very sad given the bride-to-be not only is out the deposit money paid, but they do not have pictures of their special day. Every wedding planning season we warn about these types of scams that can ruin a special day” said Monica Horton, BBB Spokesperson.

One complainant told BBB, “I hired her to do my son’s wedding photos and maternity shoot. My son and his girlfriend scheduled an appointment with her, but tried contacting her about 5 days before just to confirm appointment. She would not answer or contact them back. I finally started messaging her and she finally answered me back claiming that her child was sick. I understand sick kids, but communication is key when you own a business, especially when you have collected a deposit of 350.00. If your client is contacting you, then respond in a timely manner. I have read other issues about this person and red flags started to be raised and I got worried she would not show for the wedding in November. As no photos have actually been taken no services performed i have asked for my money back, she continually has excuses. I honestly do not believe anything that comes out of her mouth.”

BBB is constantly warning brides-to-be about the pitfalls of wedding vendors and to find a trusted vendor online at BBB.org.
