Mediation and arbitration services
Using BBB’s dispute resolution program
Every business gets complaints because no company is perfect, mistakes take place, and miscommunications happen. What matters is that the complaints are resolved. Being responsive and working to solve issues that arise is part of what sets BBB Accredited Businesses apart.
As an impartial third party, BBB helps businesses and consumers find resolution of their disputes while avoiding costly lawsuits and public settlements. In addition to free complaint conciliation, many BBBs offer low-cost mediation that helps businesses and consumer to arrive at a mutually agreed-upon resolution and/or arbitration that results in a final decision by an arbitrator trained to make a binding decision to end the dispute.
BBB complaints are processed for BBB Accredited and non-accredited businesses, and BBB asks all businesses to respond to any complaints they receive and address the issue(s) stated. This is just one additional way BBB is helping create a community where businesses and consumers can trust each other.

BBB Torch Awards for Ethics℠
BBB recognizes and celebrates local businesses and nonprofits that go above and beyond when it comes to running their organizations with ethics and integrity. Local winners have the opportunity to compete for the International Torch Awards through the International Association of Better Business Bureaus. Torch Award winners are selected by an independent panel of judges for their intentional focus and best practices in upholding BBB’s Standards of Trust.
The Torch Awards entry process asks organizations to look at their internal practices using BBB’s guiding principles, which provide benchmarks on which organizations can reflect, evaluate, and determine what core values drive their mission and goals. We are excited to announce the upcoming launch of the BBB Trust Score, which is also built around this framework. This new tool will allow Trust to be an internal performance metric within an organization and, based on the scores, will offer specific programs and resources customized to the needs of the organization.
BBB Spark Awards℠
BBB’s Spark Award recognizes business owners 35 and under or business owners of any age operating for less than three years who demonstrate a higher level of character, generate a culture that is authentic about its mission, and connect with the community.
The Spark Awards program is based on the criteria that high-character leaders must be teachable and open to growing with ideas; creating a constructive workplace culture helps teams work toward their goals and establish guidelines for accountability, and notable entrepreneurial organizations show appreciation for their communities by enthusiastically giving back.
The Spark Award class is chosen from an arena of entries and nominations that show that there is no lack of trusted businesses, nonprofits, and individuals, and celebrates the intentional focus that they give to their internal and external best practices.
