I purchased Travel insurance on 10/4/23 for an upcoming international trip. Unfortunately, we suffered two airlines cancellations that resulted us having been stranded in NYC for a night until our rescheduled flight the following day. We were originally scheduled to depart NYC on 10/28/23, but received an email on 10/21 from our airline (with no information as to why) that our flight was cancelled and rebooked on 10/27. We scrambled to change our plans to get to NYC on 10/27 and upon landing, learned from the airline again that the flight was cancelled and rebooked on another flight on 10/28. We had to find a hotel room, transportation, baggage storage, etc in NYC that evening. We also lost a hotel room night charge in Portugal because it was non-refundable. Upon return from our trip, I filed a claim with our Travel Insurance, Tin Leg through Squaremouth detailing all of the above - the back and forth on flight cancellations, etc. After almost 2 months of emails and phone calls from Tin Leg asking for receipts and documentation, they denied my claim saying that I was not covered because my loss occurred before my departure date. Two issues with this: 1) the policy clearly states it is in effect on 10/5 and the start of my loss was 10/21 but actually on 10/27 and 10/28 and 2) they had all of this information upfront but still put me through a ton of hassle asking for documentation that was irrelevant in their decision. I feel that they asked for documentation upon documentation to determine the total of the loss and THEN decided not to pay. I asked for the appeal process, which I was never given. I was only provided another email saying my appeal had been opened and then another saying the appeal was upheld. I don't even know that the appeal actually happened. I feel like this is fraudulent on their part in an attempt to not pay for the insurance they provided.
