1 starMy wife and I are landlords to a 2 family home in Manchester NH. We had used Paul the Plumber a few times over the last year. (Prior to this last visit we had great impressions of the company)
Recently, our tenant had informed us they heard knocking when turning on the cold water faucet in the bathroom. Since we had to have the plumber come out to assess the issues with the faucet we decided to have them quote an array of upgrades we were looking to have done. (New heating system, insulation of piping and etc.)
However, while my wife was home the plumber indicated that the faucet needed to be replaced. He indicated to my wife that he had a faucet on hand that he could install to eliminate the knocking sound. The faucet itself was $39.00 at Home Depot. (I researched)
Since I wasn’t there I wasn’t aware of the cost until after the installation had taken place. I tried calling Paul the Plumber 3 times and was told the manager would call me back. She never did. On the 4th call (5 days later) I was finally transferred to the manager who said she couldn’t divulge any information regarding the $798 dollar charge for 1 hour labor and $39 dollar faucet. She was adamant that she was the only one I could speak with about the pricing but didn’t have access to explain the pricing to me. I was just trying to understand the pricing because we were apprehensive about moving forward with the quotes if a faucet cost close to $800. I was also told that this is standard pricing with all faucet replacements but based on reviews I have seen in the last few months, the higher prices vary depending on the person.
We will not being moving forward with Paul the Plumber with any future needs.
Their lack of transparency, dishonesty, lack of communication, and high prices are absurd.Paul The Plumber

We are very transparent in our pricing. The technician comes in and gives the customer the price before he does any work, that way there you can agree to move forward or you can send him away. We are priced the way we are for numerous reasons, but ultimately it comes down to what it costs us to deliver a high level of service for customers. It’s true that smaller, or one man operations can be cheaper, but we do business differently, and have found that thousands of homeowners in NH see tremendous value in the way we operate. Good questions to ask when you’re considering going with a cheaper company; Will they be available for me when I need them? Can I trust that they’ll show up on time, and complete the work when they say they will? Has the person who comes to my home been background checked? Are they competent and knowledgeable on how to fix my problem? Do they offer the same guarantees and warranty on their work, and actually stand by them? Do they properly compensate their employees with fair wages, benefits, and health insurance? At Paul The Plumber we try to create a customer experience that goes beyond just the job itself. In order to do that, and answer “yes” to all the questions above, there are added costs, but we truly believe that it is the right way to do business.Review fromMartin B

1 starBeware of vast overcharges for service. While at my house fixing a shut off valve the repair person noticed a small leak in my expansion tank of my furnace. He told me that this was a very large repair requiring a "a lot of time to correct" and would require him to take apart the entire furnace. The cost was $2,900. Having had positive experience before with Paul the Plumber we agreed to the repair. While a "lot of time" took 1.5 hours and required about $300 in parts, he did not take apart the furnace - just shut off the water and put on the parts outside the furnace. That comes to $1700 per hour !!! Total dishonest portrayal of the scope of the project. Do not trust this company. Get a second opinion. They are dishonest.Paul The Plumber

5 starsRequest was for rebuild of a guest bath mixing valve due to inconsistant water temp. Mike and Tyler inspected the 20 year old mixer and left to get the required kit.
After rebuild the water still was not as hot as the adjacent sink tap. Mike noted that we had remodel work in our kitchen and asked if any other was being done. A new shower in the master bath was roughed in and he found that the partial valve there was open and allowed cross mixing of hot and cold lines. He closed the balancing screws and solved the issue. Prices were in line with other larger plumbing groups. All seem to have adopted a price structure that allows quote to never be exceeded.
Mike and Tyler were courteous, and quickly found and corrected the source of our issue.Review fromKenneth C

1 starVery outrageously over priced for the work they do.
Recently had work done from them thinking they are fair with their pricing to find out after the fact they charged me double what anybody does.
I do not recommend them to anybody.Paul The Plumber

5 starsOn Jan. 16 2023 Technician Mike E. and Assistant Technician Tyler S. came for an annual inspection. What made me impressed with them is their knowledge but also their kindness.
I just had a heart pacemaker implant. They voluntary shovelled some snow from my steps (before they knew of my medical condition). Before leaving they shovelled around our cars.
They were courteous and went above expectations.
Thank you,
