We contracted with Pickett’s Choice Builders, LLC, on 12/5/2023 for a start when the weather was nice. Despite a beautiful spring, the work started on 6/5/2023, not for a lack of follow-up. After a few weeks of inconsistent communications, and unkept promises, we started realizing that the project didn’t match the contract. We then were made aware that subcontractors were canceling permits with Pickett’s Choice Builders, LLC, or refusing to work with him directly, so to progress through the project, we agreed on paying them directly (as documented in emails). Mr. P******* did not credit us back for the subcontractors we already paid for through him as we agreed upon and dismissed our questions about the items in breach of our contract (the cantilever in the back of the house is 1 ft instead of 2 ft; the shower bottom is a simple pan instead of schluter kerdi system with tile or pebble floor). We fired Mr. P****** and gave him a chance to refund us for the subcontractors and terminate our business agreement with no other consequences for his business. Hours after letting him go and while waiting for our refund, we received a new invoice in an email, disregarding that he was fired and making up a fictitious meeting out at our house between him and the plumber that had canceled his permit to continue the work. Needless to say, the plumber was not there. This would be comical if it weren't for the "open concept," leaving my home open to heat waves, unhealthy air conditions, and everything else. A framing pre-inspection revealed that the addition is currently simply resting on a window frame that is not load-bearing due to the missing LVL window header that the county-approved plan is showing. Other issues were listed by the County inspection and will come with a heavy bill. We are the third job he left unfinished this year, the second formal MHIC complaint, and soon to be in line for a court case after a lost claim, one settled, and one currently open case.
