2017 BMW 750i with around 27000 miles.
I took the car to Hometown for state inspection; the inspection was done without any reported issue.
Scam 1: Oil change.
I took the car for an oil change few months later; I asked to use Liqui Moly 10w-60.
BMW charges for this oil change $120 with a loaner car if requested.
This oil costs retail $46 for 5 liters; the car uses 9.7 liters.
Hometown charges close to $240 for the oil change, also charging for 11 liters, 1.3 liter higher than required by the car, at $20 per liter; a clear rip off.
Scam2: I asked to check one of the tires because it was losing air over a week.
I received a fancy report with pictures circling spot of that tire, alleging a nail; the claim is that there is a nail in the corner of the tire, making it irreparable. I digitally exploded the picture, and realized that there is no nail, this is a scam. Besides, the picture was taking with the tire on the car, signaling another attempt to scam. I call this a low IQ scam.
I asked not to repair the tire, and took it to a tire store next door to Hometown; they took the tire off, and found a big nail in the center of the tire. One has to be both clinically and legally blind to miss the nail. It was repaired for $15 and no need to replace the tire. Another low IQ attempted scam by Hometown.
Scam 3: Still on the 2017 BMW 750i, Hometown reported that I need to replace the brake rotors because of rust. Notice this car has around 30K miles.
From the time Hometown first did the state inspection, I took the car back twice to BMW for a key replacement and a battery replacement. Both times, I received close to 12 pages of an inspection report without any mention of replacing the rotors.
Suspicious, I went back to BMW to check if the rotor need replacement; they took me to the floor with brand new car, with less than 10 miles and show me the same rust on the rotor; the rust was normal and cosmetic and do not need to be replaced. Hometown quoted $2000 per wheel. Another attempt to scam and still.
Incompetence 1: 2007 BMW X5 4.8 with close to 230,000 miles, with no engine problem whatsoever.
First, the oil scam was repeated here too, however the real incompetence is as followed:
#1. The Center vent is blowing air at different temperature on the driver side than. the passenger ***** even if set at the same temperature.
Hometown claimed it was the refrigerant; I took it back twice without result, so I gave up. One has to be a moron to diagnose this issue as a refrigerant issue. I even told the receptionist what the problem was, thanks to YouTube. BWM fixed the problem.
#2. When going over a bump, the front driver wheel makes a noise.
It was supposed to be repaired, to no avail; BMW finally fixed it.
#3. Loss of coolant.
It was supposed to be fixed, to no avail; BMW finally fixed it.
Lesson learned: it is cheaper to take your BMW to a dealer than Hometown; they are incompetent and scammers.
RMW next door is more competent and professional.
I have been going to Hometown auto for more than 12 months, without paying much attention to the invoices; I went back to invoices and realized that these scammers have been robbing me for a while.
These are scammers; do not be flattered by their pseudo charm .
Stay away from Hometown Auto; they will rob or create new problems; I feel sorry for the person who bought my 2008 BMW 750i; I left instructions for how to avoid engine problem. I am sure Hometown will not pass ** along, because they need to rob.
Finally, notice that there is typically no BMWs in line to be repaired at Hometown, usually American or Japanese car. That is a sign that the experience is lacking. Just check RMW next door, they have all German cars.
Everything I said was correct and can be proven, with documentation. Hometown is a bunch of thieves. I will take them to court if they continue to deny what is easily provable.
Hometown response is dishonest; I took the 2017 BMW 750i twice for tire issues; the second time was the attempted ripoff.
