We contracted with Cevilla's Co. to have a bathroom built in our basement. It was scheduled to start on May 8th, but didn't start until May 11th. After a couple of days, we had to insist they stop the work. Three outside contractors looked at the project & said things were being done improperly & not to code. Cevilla's did not place a liner in the shower base to prevent mold. When questioned, they insisted this was the "old school" thing to do and was not necessary. I shared with ****, the owner about my severe mold allergy. The exhaust fan was hooked up to our return air vents, so all moisture was going to be vented into the house. The wiring had been hooked up wrong and was a fire hazard. The toilet line was not set at the correct height and was not going to work. And our upstairs water line had been split for the bathroom, leaving us with no hot water pressure in our upstairs kitchen sink. We told the Cevilla *** to stop the job and asked that the money we had already given them be returned, as the work that had been started was going to need to be redone. While we were having that conversation with ****, the lead contractor, said something to one of his men in Spanish. We thought he had told them to stop the job & clean up. When we went down into the basement, we found that the guy he had spoken to had thrown a bunch of drywall haphazardly on the wall frame to make it look like drywall had been installed. We contacted **** and told him that we wanted our money back as the project was a mess and that this was unethical on his part. He refused and sent us a bill for more money and threatened a "lien on our property" if the additional funds were not sent within 5 days. We had someone come in & take out the concrete that had been put in the base of the shower. Under that concrete we found empty bags of ******** ******* which we were told would create a ************* hazard. The new contractor had to take down every part of the project & start from scratch.
