This has been a nightmare for my family. We had a policy to cover the property and business losses. Secura has ruined us after a vandalism incident. The stress that this has put on us all. We lost my son in law due to ulcers he developed with all the stress of this. This company shows such greed and should not be allowed to operate. We are in Federal Court now against them we have tried to negotiate with them, but so far they have been unwilling. We are now moving towards trial or possibly removing it from Federal Court to move it into local court where the insurance was sold. I would not recommend Secura Insurance for any. They have caused us great heartache and pain for what they have done to us.Review from john t.

Secura has put me through an absolute nightmare. I had vandalism to my building. We got through the first part, but later found out due to water damage to my building which is over 15,000 square foot the electrical had to be redone and the electric to the HVAC units had to be redone. We cannot get the entire roof finished until this is done. We are now into over 7 months into this and we do not have a resolution and were told to stop with any electric work until a resolution was made. We still have no resolution. I have done every step they asked. I even asked for a settlement and then they told me not to contact to them anymore nor their electric engineers or their independent adjuster. I can only speak to their attorney now. I sent her a list of questions and still have no answers. In their reports that made inaccurate claims which I have emails to prove otherwise. When I sent those to them they ignored it. I am sure they will do the same when or if they respond to this. They have caused me so much grief and damages to my livelihood. I would not recommend them for anything. I am still in shock of how I have been treated by them. They owe me quite a bit to finish this which my policy does allow for. I am well within my coverage.Review from Patrick S

SECURA insured a seasonal home owned by Complainant. Complainants complaint concerns SECURAs handling of a theft claim he submitted to SECURA that took place on or about 3/31/21 at the seasonal home. Complainant is also complaining about the fact that SECURA is non-renewing his seasonal residence.Relative to SECURAs handling of Complainants theft claim on 3/31/21 Complainant reported he had some property stolen and damaged from a seasonal residence he owns and was insured by SECURA. SECURAs policy provides replacement coverage with respect to theft/damage claims if certain conditions are met and complied with. The claim was first reported to SECURA on 4/05/21 and the SECURA Claim Rep made contact with Complainant that day. On 4/29/21 Complainant provided SECURA with an initial short form theft lost report which included an inventory of the damaged and stolen items. On 5/11/21 SECURA received a copy of the police report. On 5/21/21 SECURA contacted Complainant and his insurance agent. The SECURA Claim Rep requested available original receipts for the stolen items to establish proof of ownership. Complainant advised he does not keep receipts and sheds credit card statements. Complainant further advised he will continue to supplement his personal property inventory On 6/11/21 the Claim Rep handling the matter contacted Complainant and advised him SECURA will be paying him an actual cash value amount of $28,202.51 for the items stolen and damaged. The Claim Rep also walked Complainant through the process of making a replacement cost claim for the items stolen and damaged. To make a replacement cost claim Complainant needed to provide SECURA with copies of replacement receipts to show the items were replaced. Complainant was adamant de did not want to be paid actual cash value and was going to consult with an attorney to confirm this is what he is owed under the his policy and how the depreciation holdback is claimed. Between 6/14/21 and 9/22/21 the SECURA Claim Rep followed up with Complainant six times to see if he consulted with an attorney and if any items had been replaced so SECURA could pay for replacement cost on those items. On 9/22/21 the Claim Rep sent a completed personal property inventory with the information we had and processed a payment in the amount of $34,726.54. A settlement email was sent to Complainants home and work email outlining the payment made. On 9/24/21 the Claim Rep discussed the personal property inventory with Complainant and removed several duplicate items and completed the finalized contents list. In regard to Complainants complaint regarding SECURAs handling of his claim as indicated above Complainant was not very helpful or cooperative in performing and doing what was asked of him after the loss and per the terms of the policy. Complainant specifically took issue with the following requests:1.We asked for any available original receipts of stolen items for proof of ownership. Very few original receipts were provided, however Complainant did provide us the original boxes for the firearms stolen which included the serial numbers on or around May 21, 2021. In all theft claims proof of ownership of the stolen items is necessary.2.We asked Complainant to provide an inventory of items stolen including the age of the items for depreciation purposes. 3.We asked Complainant to continue to revise the inventory he provided to the police department as he supplemented his claimed inventory.4.Complainant was upset he had a limit of $10,000/ $2,500 per unscheduled firearm and related equipment. This is not a SECURA issue.5.Complainant did not expect he had to send us copies of receipts to substantiate replacement to be paid the depreciation holdback for each item. SECURA needs proof that the damaged/stolen items are replaced to pay replacement cost coverage.6.Complainant advised he did not have time to discuss our questions on the receipts submitted as the items were not like, kind and quality to claimed items on the inventory. In summary, SECURA followed industry standards for a theft claim investigation, including our requests for an inventory, police report, and receipts. We worked within the confines of the policy specific to the special limits of liability and replacement cost coverage valuation conditions. Complainants lack of cooperation and refusal to respond to SECURAs requests for information has made handling the claim difficult and delayed the resolution of the claim. SECURA believes they have done a good job handling Complainants claim particularly given his lack of cooperation and refusal to respond to certain requests made by SECURA for information.Regarding Complainants complainant concerning the nonrenewal of his policy with respect to his seasonal residence. On 8/05/21 SECURA ordered an inspection on the insureds seasonal residence. On 8/25/21 the inspector was unable to inspect the residence because a gate was restricting access to the property. Per the inspection report, Complainant stated he was too busy with work to unlock the gate anytime in the near future. On 11/27/2021 Complainant received a Notice of Renewal with Coverage Change from SECURA because we non-renewed the seasonal property. The reason for the non-nonrenewal of the seasonal property was the property does not meet the protection class requirements. Specifically roads leading to the home must be accessible year-round. That was not the case in this situation. With respect to seasonal homes all underwriting rules that apply to the Primary home are also applicable to the Seasonal home. In addition to the fact the roads leading to the home were not accessible year-round the policy could have also been non-renewed given there was a non-weather home claim payment over $5,000 in the previous 35 months leading up to the upcoming effective date of 1/31/22. As of 11/27/21 there was a claim payment of $34,726.54 and a reserve of $10,273.46 on a theft claim with a loss date of 3/31/21. The policy could have also been non-renewed given incomplete underwriting information was provided because we were not able to inspect the home.SECURA believes they have acted properly both with respect to the handling of Complainants theft claim and with respect to the nonrenewal of his seasonal home.Review from Jessica H

Worst experience EVER dealing with an insurance claim. Poor communication from all levels and on all fronts, poor customer service. Rude. I only had dealings with this insurance company due to an injury claim, but I will NEVER use them for anything.Review from Al C

Dealing with Secura Insurance Co. was worse than the accident itself. They filed their accident report wrong and won't fix it. Now I suffer with higher premiums with my new company. Over a year later and it still isn't right.
