              Their leasing office accepted multiple holding deposits on a single location--Woodland Village Apartments in the Village of Oregon, Wisconsin. This mistake has so far cost potential roommate & myself at least hundreds of dollars and many hours. When inquired about their misstep the VP in their main office assured me that this is standard practice at Steve Brown Apartments. Actions taken by Steve Brown apartments leasing department and upper management violate state anti-discrimination laws under Wis. Stat. 106.50(2). Prospective residents should be aware of the uncommon leasing practices at Steve Brown Apartments in the Madison, Wi area. Arbitrary application cancellation after accepting a holding deposit (EMD) of over $300 on a unit renting for approx. $1,000/month is a display of sub-par business management.

              Connor, I apologize that you feel we engaged in discriminatory business practices. When there is more than one party interested in the same apartment, we operate in a first-come, first-served manner and accept multiple applications and earnest money from any party that wishes to reserve their place in the queue. We then process the first application, which may or may not be approved. If the first application is not approved, we move on to the second and so forth until there is an approved applicant. Once the approved applicant signs their lease, all other applicants in the queue are released from their earnest money obligation, and refunds are processed. We follow this business practice in every case, and approvals are always based on standard application criteria. I apologize that this process and the potential delays for refunds were not made clear before you submitted earnest money, and thank you for your feedback.
