    On January 26, 2017, BBB recognized a pattern of complaints from consumers regarding service, customer service, billing, and refund issues. Complaints allege that consumers purchased a game, however it would not load, or when it did load it would not run properly.

    Consumers allege when requesting a refund due to the game not running properly, they are denied a refund based on the company’s policy of the game showing that it was played over two hours. Consumers allege they did not play the game for two hours and it’s logging the time it took for the game to load, not playing time.

    Consumers allege they were banned from their account for no reason. They were provided a canned response, but no detailed information why they were banned.

    Consumers allege their accounts were hacked, and items in their account were stolen.

    Consumers allege they received unauthorized charges for games they did not purchase.

    Consumers allege when purchasing a gift card, the PIN number from the card is illegible for the gift card to be used.

    Consumers allege they were promised a refund from the company, but they did not receive a refund.

    Consumers allege they were double charged when purchasing a game.

    Consumers allege they are scammed when trading weapons with other gamers.

    Consumers further allege they purchased a game based on the features advertised, however when playing the game they found the features were not as advertised.

    Consumers further allege when receiving a response from the company concerning their issues, they were given general responses or the company was unresponsive altogether.

     

    BBB reached out to the company in an effort to address the underlying cause(s) of its pattern of complaints. 
     
    As of today, Valve Corporation has not responded to BBB.

    My complaint involves recent hit AAA release Helldivers 2, which was developed by Arrowhead Games and published by **** via the Steam and Playstation platforms. Initially, there were no issues or strange requirements that would make me reconsider my purchase, and thus I have played the game for more than two hours -- the maximum amount granted for refunds as defined within their refund policy. Should the game continued to have had no extraneous issues, I would not have had a problem with continuing to own the game.Where the issues start, however, is when publisher **** announced that linking your Steam account to their Playstation Network system would be required to continue to play the game, with a starting date of May 6 for new players, and existing players being required to set up a new account by June 4. The justification is that account linking was apparently required from the beginning, but was suspended due to issues with account linking. This would be fine if this issue was properly communicated, and knowing this was the case and that account linking would eventually be made mandatory would have made me refund the game within the two hour grace ******* In addition, publisher ****'s own playstation website page for the Helldivers 2 game explicitly stated prior to 5/4/2024 (after the announcement was made) that linking accounts was not required (attachment fzzk5mi2hykc1.png)With this information in mind, and the fact that I am unwilling to link a Playstation Network account due to ****'s past handling of data security, I reached out via Steam support to request a refund on the game that is being taken away from me as of next month for a game that has been out less than 4 months and I have owned for less than 3 months with no warning of this occurring, and was almost immediately rejected due to the mentioned 2 hour limit. I can understand this if I can still play the game, or if it was an older game that went end of service, but this is not acceptable.

    I wish I could say better. These guys have been a great service in my past, but I got scamed and now I'm left with a game I can't even bring myself to play. Just make sure you research all packages a game provides before buying. Because even if you don't play 2 hours of that specific content they will still count your game time on the main game against you.
