Our gas was shut off due to two small leaks in the system. A technician came over and informed us that we needed to replace all our gas lines - which run all over the basement. Starting cost: $450 - for two small leaks. Unbelievable!Review from Crystal M

Thanks for reaching out today and I'm sorry that you are not happy with our drain service work on 11/28. The only feedback we have received since that time is a 5* survey you left that same day, so it's a little confusing as to the little bit of info you left on this review. As the drain tech noted at the time of the work, we were able to get temporary flow to the main drain line but there are multiple issues going on with that drain where it leaves the house. Compounding the issue were all of the wipes we pulled from the drain as well as the extensive grease build-up, which the tech noted at the time. We would be happy to discuss this further if you would like, and you can contact the service department at ************ and ask for *****************************.Review from B. S.

No longer a family owned business and will refer you to their “sister company” Service Professor. Had problems with roots in my sewer line that Hedlund missed and somehow 3 months later my line needs to be replaced for $18k? Skip the scams and pushy service techs of higher priced items and find someone else.Hedlund Plumbing Company Response

Thank you for reaching out in regards to our recent visit to look at the plugged main drain line between the house and the road. I'm a little unclear about your comments saying we missed the tree roots 3 months ago, because the call in September was for a plugged toilet. We ran the closet auger through it to clear the line and tested everything out at that time. There was zero indication of tree roots in September and no notes from the call stating you were experiencing any whole house drain issues. When our technician was out on 11/25 the whole house drain was ion fact backed up with tree roots, but it was completely unrelated to the original trip in September. On 11/25 we were able to temporarily restore flow to the drain line and with the video camera confirm the root situation. We also cleared the section of line between the basement and exterior clean out fitting to ensure proper flow, at least on a temporary basis. We explained that these roots will absolutely return and many of our customers look for a long term solution instead of having to deal with a plugged sewer line on a regular basis, which is where the pipe lining comes in. In our 83 years of business we never have and never will operate with 'scams and pushy service techs'. In this situation you have multiple choices for a repair...1. Auger out the sewer line 2. Water jet the line to more thoroughly remove the roots 3. Dig up the existing sewer line from the house to the street or 4. Install a trenchless sewer liner for the best long term solution. Our job as a professional plumbing contractor is to present those options and educate the customer for the best solution to meet their needs. That's it. I'm sorry our recent visit was not a good experience, and we do value this feedback as it will help us improve our communication with our customers to ensure we are educating them properly for the various solutions. One other fact is that Hedlund Plumbing is still a family run business, but since we do not have the pipe lining equipment we have partnered with a leading company out of Grand Rapids, who has years of experience with this process. This again is a great fit for some customers who are looking for a permanent solution on the tree roots without digging up the entire front yard.Review from Shereen T

We contacted Hedlund Plumbing to replace old pipes in the crawl area underneath our home. They assured us they can complete the job well and replace all galvanized pipes. Once they started working they changed their statement to say they can only do 2/3 of the area due to accessibility issues which they should have determined before they started. Pipes burst two months later! We had to seek additional assistance drying the area then had Hedlund come back and fix the pipes which they did at two separate occasions and billed us each time!!! We had a third leak this week! When one of us checked the crawl area, we discovered Hedlund had not replaced all pipes they claimed they replaced!! Therefore we had reoccurring problems. We sought assistance from another company to complete the necessary work! the additional cost was not necessary! I don't recommend Hedlund Plumbing to anyone since they did not even provide warranty on their work. Where does honesty and integrity fit on their professional scale?Hedlund Plumbing Company Response

I would like to add some facts to this recent review. In June of 2021 we did in fact give a price quote to replace the old galvanized water lines in the house and took care of the work in July. All lines were replaced with the exception of one cold water line serving the bathroom, which was inaccessible through a very tight crawl space. Unfortunately this was not known until we tried to access the crawl space during the rest of the work. We explained the situation to the customer and it was mentioned that were planning on adding onto the house by the bathroom and will call us back then, when the time comes. At that point the floor could be removed and accessed from the top to get the last pipe replaced. For the record the two other charged calls were not related to our new pipes installed in July but had to do with ground water entering the crawl space (from a large rain event) and putting the water softener piping back together, which was temporarily removed so the restoration company could gain access to the crawl space. As for the recent leak in the same crawl space area, a water line froze & burst due to a non-working furnace in the middle of winter. I do not know of any plumbing company that should be responsible for a burst water line that occurred due to no heat. For 83 years we have served our customers with honesty and integrity, and I'm sorry you won't agree with this but this was a situation that was completely out of our control, and it appears that you did not have 100% of the facts before leaving your review.Customer Response

The facts that were missed:
The bursting of the "newly replaced pipe" took place before having a furnace problem. It took Hedlund three days to respond to our request for assistance. If all galvanized pipes were indeed replaced at Hedlund claims, why would one section of the pipes burst? Please see a photo of the section that burst and was replaced in January. Does it look like it's made of PEX? which is what Hedlund was expected to install as a replacement for the galvanized pipes. This certainly supports my contention that Hedlund work was incomplete and below expectations. Additionally, Hedlund never provided any paperwork delineating the restorations they had completed, the warranty, if any, the type of pipes they replaced, and the areas left without replacement. If all pipes were indeed replaced as agreed upon and paid for (except for the bathroom area), then why did the burst pipe section that's closest to the entry area look like a galvanized pipe? We are very disappointed.
