Essentially we were sold a refrigerator that is noted as "new" and "scratch and dent" on the receipt from Bay Area Applaince but had the serial number removed from the appliance. The refrigerator had all the original tags taped on the inside as new refrigerators have when you open the doors in the showroom. Within six months we started having issues with the ice maker and the freezer. We contacted Bay Area Appliance and they sent someone out to repair - which we had to pay for. They did not fix it. The problem persisted. We did research on the internet to troubleshoot the problem and tried all solutions. Nothing worked. We contacted LG and that is where we discovered that the serial number was missing. We had assumed that it was somewhere on the refrigerator but just couldn't locate it. LG hearing the issues had sent a repairman out to the house to fix it as it was under manufacturer warranty - IF it had a serial number. The tech assured us that the serial number sticker is on the inside of the refrigerator. He located where it is usually located and at that point we could see a faint outline of residue from the glue of the sticker. Because the serial number had been removed LG could not repair it. The tech spent time explaining what the issue was with the refrigerator and noted that when the serial number sticker is removed it is an indication that normally there is an issue with the appliance and that it is not repairable. In talking to Bay Area Appliance they said that would come out and fix it for $900+ dollars but that they would reduce it down into the $500. Research of Florida State Statutes, Section 817.235 appears to indicate that it is fraudulent to knowing sell property to the public with serial numbers removed. When questioning Bay Area Appliance about it they put the blame on the consumer for buying something with the serial number removed. As mentioned, it was noted as "new" on the receipt and had all the new tags inside.
