    This dentist told me I needed crowns on my teeth. My insurance company sent me a letter saying two independent dentists evaluated the case and determined one of the crowns was unnecessary. My insurance therefore would not cover it. The dentist's office then sent me a bill for $1,086.10 for this unnecessary dental work.When I contacted the dentist's office about this, I was told they were appealing the insurance company's decision. I was promised they would put a pause on my account while this was pending and would not do anything further, including sending the bill to collections. I was also told someone would contact me if anything changed. I got another bill from the dentist's office in the mail in mid-January, so I called today (1/18/23) to see what was going on. They stated they had already sent the bill to collections. They kept saying this was between me and the insurance company, and that there is nothing they can do about the bill being sent to collections. This is false, as a "creditor" has the ability to recall an account from collections at any time. The dentist's office sent the bill to collections, not the insurance company, so they are the "creditor," aka the party who would need to recall it. It is also unclear why the dentist's office is still billing me directly when they admitted today they sent this to collections weeks ago. This means when I called 1/5/23 and was told they were still appealing and holding the account, they had already sent it to collections even then.Since this dentist's office made misrepresentations to me regarding the status of my account and misled me as to whether the bill was currently owed due to the ongoing insurance appeal, I am asking that they recall it from collections. This should not negatively impact my credit because they made a mistaken assessment as to whether a dental procedure was necessary, and then misled me as to the status of my account.
