State of Minnesota vs. Brio Energy LLC, Bello Solar Energy, Avolta Power, Inc., Sunny Solar Utah LLC, Jared Fager, Michael Kaelin, Alan Whitaker, Goodleap LLC, Sunlight Financial, LLC and Corning Credit Union Services Company, LLC,

The following describes a pending government action that has been formally brought by a government agency but has not yet been resolved. We are providing a summary of the government’s allegations, which have not yet been proven.

On April 26, 2022, the Minnesota Attorney General filed a lawsuit in Hennepin County District Court. Charges filed allege the business, three of its executives, and several lending partners engaged in deceptive and fraudulent practices in marketing and selling residential solar panel systems. The suit alleges these individuals and entities violated several Minnesota state laws against consumer fraud by leading consumers to believe they were partnering with utility companies when they were not,  that they were signing up for information only to be tricked into signing a binding contract, and by exaggerating how much money could be saved. The matter is pending.

Back in the summer of 2020, I was convinced by a Steve P**** with Total Solar Solutions (now Brio Energy and maybe even Brighter Solar Energy) to get solar panels installed. This didn't happen until that October after professing concern to Mr. P**** about the decision. I was approved for a loan $35,246.00 (that has since been paid down approximately $10K through GoodLeap) and everything was installed in October 2020. Other than my monthly payment NOT being what I was originally told it would be, I was satisfied with everything. Since then, I've been carefully tracking my energy bills and I noticed around October 2023 that things weren't looking quite right. I'm now convinced that there's an issue with at least one panel. At the time of the contract, I was told that there would be a full warranty for 10 years and then a lesser warranty for 25 years. So, I began calling the numbers I have for this company and emailing those solar panel contacts I have saved in a specific folder in my email account... I can't get in touch with ANYONE. I even still have Mr. P****'s cell phone number and texted him. It shows that he's "read" the text, but has not responded. I honestly feel that I've been scammed at this point and saw online that others have felt the exact same way. I have no idea how to proceed with any of this, but I just feel sick. In addition to the contract, I also have a video with the handwritten paper (in Mr. P****'s handwriting) about everything.

This company ( BRIO Energy, LLC) should have gotten in touch with all their customers that had solar panels installed on their home.. I had them put on -- May 11, 2020. They are not working and I have 23 more years to pay for something I will NOT continue to pay for if they are Not working. I got in touch with a ************** in a chat room on my SolarEdge app.. He advisor me to find an installer. I did and they will have to get back in touch with me. Been a day now and haven't heard back from them. My solar panels stop working and I been dealing with this issue. He give me Infor and I am going to pass it forward. 1). ******************************* 2.) *******************************************. For me where I live *********, ** was the closest company that has installer. I don't know what they will charge to come out which is 87 miles away from me. All of us need answer. This is totally wrong.. I wouldn't give them a star. I need someone from that company to step up and do the right **** thing. Or cancel the contract with loan company..
