I cant say enough about Wingate Wilderness and their aftercare services. My son went to Wingate twice. About 2 years apart. First time was successful in many ways but he needed time to mature to get the most out of it. 2 years later he was back and again had a fantastic experience. His therapist was superb!!!! My son took full advantage of his time in the wilderness. Teens are a rollercoaster of behavior and emotions and we are so thankful that Wingate now offers Parent Coaching as an aftercare support. As parents this has helped us set and keep the boundaries we need to help our son continue to grow in a healthy way. Parent coaching has helped us take back our role as the parents. This coaching support is crucial as these coaches are familiar with therapy programs and have an understanding that help guide parents and child back to regular life. Last time we tried a regular local therapist where we lived and it was a disaster. Wingate and there programs are integrated in a way that makes a difference. Most important is that their attitude/outlook on our child is one of caring and support, not negativity or blame which came our way so often from our regular life. WinGate Wilderness Therapy is a fantastic, family-run business. I have seen first-hand that WinGate is different from other wilderness therapy programs; that profit from "adventure" marketing and river rafting "excursions" only to leave their adolescent participants with the same unresolved dysfunctions with which they were found. Instead, WinGate has demonstrated that they care only about their treatment outcomes, which is the long-term healing and recovery of their juvenile clients.
