Would we ever want to work with Roper Buildings again? In short, no. We chose them to build a pole barn/shop for us as we prefer to work with smaller and local companies whenever possible and based on their great reviews from other customers. Those did not match our experience however. We experienced major issues with the management/sales/office end of things though all the workers that actually showed up to do work on site were very nice fellows. To summarize: - The building was not started or completed in a timely manner as per the schedule discussed when the contract was signed and Roper was paid for all materials 8 months earlier. This cost us unmeasurable hours of stress, inconvenience, and even death of some livestock due to not having the building we'd been counting on. - Roper gave us plans with an engineers name on them and until issues arose later and we called that engineer, we did not learn that he'd never seen our building plans and seemed very startled to learn his name was printed on them. - They failed to build a roof that could actually support the snow load we'd agreed to and that the county recommends for our area. As they first left the "completed" building, it would barely have supported a 20 pound snow load, far from the 80 pounds required. When this was brought to Roper's attention, it was dismissed by several people in the company until something got passed up the chain (possible once the engineer heard from us and learned his name was on plans he'd never seen) and we finally got a call from the owner who agreed they had messed up and would fix it. The fact that he sent some guys back to do that is the only real positive thing we can mention about our experience. - The building is generally lacking quality control and no quality inspector from Roper ever went over it after completion as we were told they would do. Some issues like the roof were huge deals, some were much smaller. - There are walls and some posts far out of plumb. - There are bumps and high spots in the concrete slab floor big enough to trip you. - The one roof is not built at the prescribed 4/12 pitch, but sloppily at a 3.something/12 pitch instead. - In places the bottom skirt boards used were cracked fully through the center when installed. - There were missing blocks leaving a open hole in the corner from the outside to inside of the building when they left. - Door knobs were installed upside down and backwards. - Roper is apparently so slow to pay their bills that we got lien notices from materials suppliers with intent to lien on our property for materials that Roper had been paid in full for 8 month previously. Unfortunately, due to all of this, we can not recommend that anyone else choose to do business with this company unless all of the above sounds like what you are looking for.
