Design Roofing inspected my house and provided me with a quote for a new roof. I accepted their quote and signed the contract on October 17, 2022. Over the new few weeks, I had a brick mason do some work on the house which damaged the existing roof, which was unavoidable as the roof is slate. However, since I already had a contract for a new roof, I was not concerned. Shingle and other materials were delivered on November 4, 2022. The crew showed up on November 7, 2022 and decided the roof is too steep and declined to preform the work in accordance with the contract. The shingles were taken back to the warehouse. I am now stuck with a roof that will almost certainly leak and very little chance of getting a new roof from another contractor this late in the year. So I'm faced with a very high probability of water damage to my home as a result of their breach of contract. Design Roofing should be liable for damages and / or repairs to my roof. I would not have allowed the brick masons to walk on the slate roof if I had known that Design Roofing was going to renege on their promise to replace the roof and breach our contract.

We apologize for any inconvenience. We strive to give the best customer service possible to each customer. However, our #1 prrority is always the safety of our crews. After analyzing this roof, we did not feel it met the safety protocol for our crew.

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Design Roofing is clearly being disingenuous in their claim that safety is the reason for their decision to breach our contract. This is demonstrated by the following: 1) Design sent a sales rep to inspect my roof. He was here for at least 30 minutes. AT NO POINT did he express ANY concern regarding the steepness, height, or any other safety factor regarding my roof. On the contrary, they were anxious to extend me an offer to perform the work. One month later (when it is too late for me to get another contractor before winter weather!!!!!), they suddenly decide the roof is too steep. I would like Design Roofing to explain to me how my roof became steeper between October 7th and November 7th. 2) I have had THREE other roofing contractors inspect my roof. NONE of them expressed ANY concerns over the steepness (or any other aspect) of the roof. Two of them were surprised that Design thought the roof was unsafe. However, the third was not surprised (see #3). 3) One roofer stated that Design's crews do not use proper safety equipment or techniques (no ropes, no safety harnesses, do not tie off, etc.). So, the problem is not that my roof is unsafe ... the problem is that Design's crews operate in an unsafe manner. If Design Roofing is so concerned with worker safety, perhaps they should ensure that their crews use proper safety equipment and techniques. Otherwise, they should stop ripping off homeowners by promising to perform work, then deciding WEEKS later that it is "unsafe" to perform their CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATIONS. Design Roofing is unprofessional, incompetent and, by virtue of their willingness to breach a written contract, UNETHICAL.

This is a project our sales representative should have discussed with management. The roof was deemed unsafe by our management and crew. In regards to other's comments about safety that is not true. We are glad that you have secured other bids for your project and we wish you well. Thank you.

I signed a contract with Design Roofing in Nov 2020 for new roof. Paid 10,000 cash and within 3 weeks noticed leaks, they would send different sub-contractors out, say they found a nail and caulked, once added flashing on outside of shingles, after the fact etc. The vent pipe apparently got broken and once I emailed with pics about this last problem they ignored my text, emails. I had a plumber fix it and paid 225. I would like Design Roofing to reimburse me for that being the roofers broke it while trying to get the boot off( plumber said in his professional opinion they did that). I have had more leaks AFTER the new roof installed. Had to have drywall guy come repair one spot where it leaked so bad, they didn’t flash any of my dormers etc. I have pictures, text and emails to confirm all this. Not only should I be reimbursed but others should be warned about their business practices as well. Thanks ****** *******

I’m writing today in response to Complaint ID * *********  The customer on this complaint is ****** ******** ******* ** *** ********** ** * *********** ** ****** *** ******* roof project was completed on November 13th, 2020.  During installation we discovered issues with loose pipes, siding issues on all dormers and no house wrap beneath the siding.  It was explained to the customer that this was going to cause leaking issues in the near future.  *** ******* had no issues with leaking until hiring a pressure washing company to clean her siding.  As predicted, this caused several leaks to occur.  We have been to *** ******** residence 5 times looking at these issues and attempting to correct.  I have explained multiple times she needs to correct her siding issues to fix the leaks.  Design Roofing is more than happy to correct any issued caused by our work, however this is no a problem we created.  Please let me know if you need any addtiional information.

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ** ********, and find that this resolution would be satisfactory to me.  I will wait until for the business to perform this action and, if it does, will consider this complaint resolved.

      Regards,

      ****** *******

After reading the response I would like to clear up the discrepancies.  Design roofing and I made a contractual agreement via phone, email, text.  The estimate was done via ****** *** so there was no consultation about house wrap, etc No house had had wrap in 1999 ( when my house was built ) Not only was there no conversation about that I couldn’t have understood the language the crew he sent to originally put my roof on.  They were from ********* *Y and only one spike ******* and I only saw *** ***e that evening when I handed him 10k cash.  What DID happen is they replaced my roof and apparently did not put flashing on any of the dormers ( 3 cape cod style house as well as in the back an upstairs dormer type bathroom) which leaked at various times .
The night of having roof replaced my pipe from Heating unit was dislodged and he said it was a Heating/AC problem. My heating guy came and placed pipe back in side of unit unbeknownst to use it was unattached in the attic as well from them pulling the boot pipe out … . I did get my house pressure washed Dec 22 and it leaked in my Living room directly in line where a dormer was above ( no flashing) but he  said * ** ****) that was because he went underneath shingles. I had leak in kitchen ceiling later that he sent Secure Construction over  to add a piece of flashing on top of shingles where my bathroom comes out upstairs

Design roofing replaced our roof in April after the job was completed I communicated with them that there was issues with there work including damage to my siding (staining and discoloration). They told me it would be taken care off and still isn’t. I told them I would fix it myself and deduct it from their charge or they could fix it and get paid in full. Two weeks later they filed a lien on my property and the problem still not resolved.
