I had dinner on Saturday, 11/22/2022 at Sweet Basil and when I received the bill I gave the waitress my gift card and cash to pay the bill. The waitress came back and said they no longer accept the gift cards. I proceeded to show the waitress using my phone and going to the website www.repeatrewards.com that the gift card was active in the amount of $75 (per attached documentation) and she said they still would no longer accept it. I paid the bill and asked her for the managers name. She provided me with the name **** which is circled on the receipt; however, I came to find out that she is the owner and lives out of state and not the manager. I was getting quite the runaround. I reached out to our local Chamber of Commerce and raised the concern with them and spoke with ********************* who is the Executive Director of the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce who said she would highly encourage ****** who is the manager to contact me. The ************ and Sweet Basil were sold over the past 2 years with the ******** closing its doors and Sweet Basil still in operation using the same exact name, address, location that it was prior to purchase. It is my understanding that under the law, a gift card cannot expire until at least five years from the date it was activated and since the business is the same legal entity it has to honor gift certificates from the previous owners. I received my gift card maybe a year and a half ago and with the ******** having closed their doors, I should at best be able to use it at Sweet Basil because the card was good for either location and it should not change any of the previous obligations. I can assure you there will be many others who have received gift cards for these businesses and I think it is unfortunate for those of us who have patronized these businesses over the years being told that our gift cards are no good.
