      I had a water heater from a different brand that lasted 17 years without any issues. Three years ago, my contractor installed an AO Smith water heater, and unfortunately, it broke down already. While I appreciate that the unit was still under warranty and AO Smith provided a replacement, I was surprised to learn that the company does not cover the replacement costs, which came to $500.This raises a serious concern for meif this new unit breaks again in a few years, Ill be forced to pay another $500 out of pocket. Thats not acceptable, especially given the reliability I experienced with my previous water heater. It makes me question the quality and longevity of AO Smith products.

      DO NOT purchase anything from this company. Brand new hot water tank that I was instructed to repair myself and when those repairs were made they still would not be held accountable so I am forced to eat the cost of a second tank within 2 months myself.

      I am very displeased with the product and customer service I received on Sunday, April 27,2025 related to my faulty water heater. I purchased a water heater from ****** on April 12,2025. The water heater was installed on April 13,2025. After installation, the water heater never produced hot water. On April 21st, a little over a week after installation, I called your company and spoke with a very nice representative who informed me that the heating element or thermostat may be bad on the water heater. She sent me an email with the part numbers to get from ******. However, when I got there, I was told that I had to purchase the parts, even though my email said I shouldn’t be charged for the parts. I paid for the parts, had the replacement parts put on, the thermostat temperature turned up and paid for the labor. In all I was out of $150. The water still didn’t get hot even after replacing the parts. The plumber has checked the voltage and power supply to the water heater. It is getting 240v and everything checked out. However, I’m still not getting hot water. I called today, April 27th and tried to get a RA# to exchange the water heater for another one at Lowe’s but the two male representatives I talked to today want me to have more repairs done on the water heater instead of allowing me to exchange. In all I have spent the price of the water heater to have it installed and repaired and I only get $100 dollars back. All because your company didn’t have service technicians in my area and wouldn’t pay for the closest technician to make the trip to fix it. This is very poor customer service and it is unfair to the customer that I have to get repairs done on a new product over and over and it hasn’t even been 30 days since purchasing. Not to mention my pain and suffering and the inconvenience of having to heat water on my stove so that my family and I can have hot water to take baths. Your return policy and service policy needs to be looked over.

      Bought a 40 gallon electric hot water heater, brought it home, our contractor installed it, and it never heated up. We purchased this item from ****** in ************ ******** and they told us that they couldn't do anything until we contacted AO Smith for a return authorization number. This hot water heater was less than 24 hours and the call service for this company explain to us that we had to troubleshoot it and then they would make a determination on whether to repair it under warranty or replace it. We're elderly people, we're not capable of those things so we're just going to eat the 475 cost I guess. Do not buy from this company. We went to ********** and purchased a Rheem that they discounted because of our situation and poor purchase with ******. Do not buy anything from AO Smith.

      My unit was purchased and was defective out of the box. The company is offering no assistance in replacing the unit. They have authorized the return but what about the additional labor costs. The first water heater broke within 4 years and the second was defective from the store. This company has terrible customer service and even worse products. Do not purchase from them under any circumstances.

      Installed a new 40 gal. natural gas heater at my church. Had a gas leak from the initial install. Called for a warranty replacement. The tech support wanted pictures. So I did that. They insinuated it was my venting. I have been a licensed plumber for over 30 years. Never got any results. Do not buy!! They will waste your time with no results! Going back to ******** ***** tanks. Thanks for noticing. Never again!

      We bought an AO Smith Electric Water Heater from ***** in 2023. In less than two years, the unit failed. The control board stopped controlling the temperature, and the heating element burned out. The control valve or control board did not shut off the power supply and continued to heat until I went downstairs and shut off the circuit breaker. The whole element was burned. This happened in the peak winter season in ********* (Dec 20th 2024). My nightmare started from their. I called AO Smith Customer Service. first time, they agreed to replace the parts and ready to ship. They also agreed to pay the labor. However, one of their "Authorized Plumbers" looked at the water heater damage and confirmed that it can't be repaired but needed to be replaced. AO Smith was ready to bear the cost of the replacement but dragged their feet for the labor cost. The responses were changing every time I talked to customer service specialist. Sometime they asked me to go with their authorized plumber and sometimes they would ask me to go through ****** (as first installation was done through ****** installer). ****** would not accept AO Smith Labor authorization and was asking me to pay upfront (Price gauging - $935.00 for installation) and deal with AO Smith. On top of it, they told me that if I would go with any other installer including their own authorized one, they would pay on $150.00. I am so appalled with the treatment I got it from AO Smith and ******. Eventually, I gave up and went with my own installer. I felt so small and helpless in front of these Goliaths.
