I had an incredibly frustrating and saddening experience with Bellin Health’s billing practices. Despite my Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from my insurance showing that I owed quite literally $0.00, Bellin charged me over $200 for what the EOB called a “negotiated discount”—an amount that should have been waived per their agreement with the insurance. When I contacted Bellin, they claimed: “Due to having a patient estimate on file and a signed NSBA Consent form, Bellin is allowed to bill the patient any balances that insurance does not cover.” This explanation completely ignored the terms of the EOB and the fact that they accepted payment from my insurance for the allowed amount, which resolved the claim. By charging me for a negotiated discount—an amount they agreed to waive—they had effectively double-billing me…and then tried gaslighting me. It feels like Bellin is hoping patients won’t notice or understand their EOBs, which is concerning. Their insistence on billing me for an amount clearly waived in the insurance agreement feels misleading and exploitative. I can’t help but wonder how many other patients have been overcharged in similar situations without realizing it. I would strongly caution anyone to carefully review their bills and EOBs when dealing with Bellin Health. This kind of behavior undermines trust and creates unnecessary stress for patients. After reviewing my own bill, I learned that my family members have also been overcharged by Bellin in the past. Their experiences are what prompted me to carefully examine my own billing and EOB, which revealed this clear error. I hope Bellin knows this is a gross misuse of its patients accounts.

Not happy with the experience ive had over the past 2 years with the billing department and anyone really who is supposed to help in there department. I keep getting the run around. Theres no information about an Anesthesia bill ever being sent to our insurance but it went to collections so we went to court paid the bill cause we were told we could get reimbursed if insurnace is to cover it. We did all that, paid it, then got insurnace to cover it, now ive been fighting with Bellin who got paid twice for the service and collections because nobody will help me get our money back. Apparently the money went to the surgeon who did my fiances surgery for Anesthesia because they never reported the anesthesiologist name or that he was there and did it, nothing to our insurnace. But i go to bellin after over a year of calling that i get a paper with the anastesiaologist name on it, took 15 mins of the lady being on the phone, she got one, first time hearing the name even and there is proof we paid collections off but, where did the insurnace money go? Im assuming to the surgeon not the anastesiaologist and so is my insurance because again no eob is in our insurnace nor the name of the anesthesiologist. But yet i cant get an eob for anesthesia which is what is now required after i sent multiple papers, eobs, and receipts over the last year to multiple people because it doesnt exist in our insurnace billing which i was told wasnt right as well by our insurnace. My insurnace is confused but trying to help. Bellin just shoes me from person to person and im left with nothing after hours on the phone or get rude comments. we shouldnt still be going through this 2 years later almost 3.

I had to pay off my mothers past due bills after she passed away. Then after following up a few months later I found they still weren't paid. I called the billing department and, after a long research on their part, it was found that the estate check was deposited into my own health account. Now after finding this mistake I have to wait 14 days for them to decide to pay off my mothers account and I have to call myself to see if it's been corrected! Poor business practice people!!!
