In July of 2021 Skips Awning was hired to construct an awning over an existing deck. They did not get a building permit as required. I got the permit after they did the work as I knew the city would not be signing off on a project of this scope with no permit. Skips was called put as they failed an inspection with the City of ****** due to footings and the stability of the bar across the top. I have contacted Skips numerous times over the last year and a half. The city also contacted them. Always the excuse is, we have to check with the engineer. o one calls me or sends any sort of communication of status. There are holes dug around the deck to "show the city the footers". The end cap is off the roof of the awning and it is getting close to winter. Snow will go in the open area, No inspection was ever called for and the project remains unfinished.

I am sorry that ***** is unhappy. We do not pull permits, that is the responsibility of the homeowner if they choose. Ideally they get the permit before the installation because it makes the process much easier. We did work with the city to verify the stability of the structure we built. Every time we satisfied one thing they asked for more. We had to coordinate with our engineer for several site visits which caused significant delays and expenses to us, as well as being required to dig up the footings for the city but the ground was frozen. We did not communicate often as we didn't have any updates, we were waiting much like she was. The permit was completed the day this complaint was filed. We will be out to fill the holes and put the cap back on the beam as soon as time allows.

This customer has been extremely impatient and rude through this entire process. Each time she or her husband have called, with the exception of once, they have been rude and yelling at us because this isn't resolved. We were working constantly with the city and have spent over $3k with the engineer to get this resolved to the city's satisfaction. We have built many covers in the neighborhood, including their neighbor's cover, without permits and they are all still standing. We were notified after they failed inspection that they had gotten a permit. Prior to that they were happy as could be with the new awning. The day she filed this complaint she left us a voicemail threatening to *** us because this isn't complete. Meanwhile her permit was completed within the hour.

This project should have had a permit. I obtained one as I knew the city would contact me if they saw a new structure and not permit. Is Skips saying that all would be fine had I not obtained a permit in violation of City code?  It has been 2 years now, and yes I am irritated this is still going on. It sounds like you have declined to be upfront with us as we were irritated at you, and this justifies the lack of communication and length of time to complete this.

How would I know that you spend $3k on this when you have not communicated anything to me. I was also told you would pay for the permit, which you have not. I had to purchase an extension a few weeks ago at my expense. I have paid for 2 permits.

The inspection is approved, however no one has come out to put the end cap back on or fill the holes back in.

I am rejecting this response because:  The end cap is not replaced. I can't get up on the roof of the awning to get it and put it back myself. We filled in the holes ourselves for the second time. I will consider this done when the cap is replaced. I want to bel clean the awning itself is not unsatisfactory. The customer service of this company is.
