Last year I had almost a dozen piercings and 4 tattoos done at Deep Roots in ********. One tattoo was spelled wrong which I did see before he tattooed it but the whole experience was unprofessional. How and why would a tattoo artist risk his reputation? And then tell me later that the additional tattoos weren't something he could do.. yet my requests were are simple as my previous tattoos. What happened there? The piercing service and the jewelry are my biggest complaints. I spent thousands of dollars on pricing services and jewelry. The supposed high end jewelry (upwards of $250+ for just one piece. And that piece broke off and was held on by a black plastic piece. They replaced it at 50% and that one broke too along with one other piece (the facing came off the post). The piece that originally fell out left a scar of its print on my ear. I had to remove hoops to let the piercings heal. I spent so much time and money there, tipped well and it was supposed to be part of a healing process and I just feel screwed over. We've attempted to contact them to make it right and I have yet to hear back from a manager. Businesses should not be able to operate like this. What really happened here?

      Business response

      10/26/2022

In response to the recent complaints leveled against ** by *******************, we wanted to share the following information.

************** visited our studio in Alderwood 14 times in 2021 for piercing and tattoo services, (two tattoo appointments in 2021 and twelve piercing appointments, the last being on September 8, 2021). Since her last appointment on September 8, 2021 we have not heard from her until she called on October 19th, 2022- the same day she filed a complaint with your office. Please note that she alleges in her complaint to the BBB that she "attempted to contact (us) but has yet to hear back", but the only communication we have from her was made the same day as her BBB complaint.

At no point during those visits or in the subsequent year since those appointments did she attempt to communicate with Deep Roots to relay the issue of the missing apostrophe in her tattoo or challenges with the jewelry.  If we had heard much sooner than now, we would have been happy to work with ***************  The amount of time that has elapsed since her last appointment leads us to believe that anything that happened with regards to her piercings are entirely from her care and treatment of her piercings and jewelry and well out of our control.

The jewelry we use is beyond surgical, it is actually implant grade (surgical is much lower quality than what we use). Our jewelry is completely bio inert, which means it is meant to be in the human body forever without causing any reaction at all. The material our jewelry is made from is ASTM tested and rated, which is an international multi industry rating that extends far beyond the jewelry industry. We would be happy to provide the mill certifications and metal specifications of our jewelry so that you can see for yourself they are completely bioinert upon request.  The Buddha Jewelry piece that was purchased in our studio is 14kt solid gold and, again, we are more than happy to provide you the mill certifications on this jewelry.

We have never carried and would never carry anything containing or made from "black plastic", nor is any of our jewelry held on by a black plastic piece, as ************** alleges. She also states in her voice mail transcript to us from October 19th that she got so claustrophobic with her piercings and jewelry that she cut every single one of them off with the wire covers (we believe she meant cutters). Cutting titanium and gold jewelry with wire cutters would create sharp, damaging edges on the jewelry and when pulled through the piercing channel would undoubtedly create trauma to the tissue surrounding the piercing. We offer jewelry removal and would have been happy to help her remove them if she would have come in. This is a unique situation to say the least, and her own actions do cause us to question how she was caring for her jewelry and piercings over the last year and a half that would lead to the outcome.

Her correspondence with our tattooist, *******, made no comments regarding the missing apostrophe.  Any client who is tattooed in one of our studios must sign a release form where they consent to both services and have reviewed and approved the specific design of the tattoo.  Even in spite of this release, had ************** informed us of the missing apostrophe, we would have been more than happy to offer a solution.  Furthermore,to the best of our knowledge, there is no evidence that ******* refused her designs, nor did he decline to schedule with her.  In fact, she never followed up with the studio to set an appointment (as detailed in the attached correspondence).

We take customer service extremely seriously in our studios and we would have loved the opportunity to make things right with this client.  But at this point, given the evidence, we feel that ****************** allegations are less than credible.  We are therefore declining to refund this client for any services at this time.

If there is any other information that we can provide to the Better Business Bureau to facilitate closing of this matter (for example - mill certificates for the jewelry or the release forms signed by the client), please do not hesitate to reach out. We appreciate our relationship with the BBB and staying in good standing with your organization is a priority for us as a reputable small business.

Looking forward to resolving this matter.

      Best regards,
