Contracted for the installation of a new shingle roof. The work performed looks real good except in the back over the garage there is a badly warped piece of **** (photo available and looks worse in person). I have contacted them several times. Last week they were going to come out and try to jack up the warped **** from the inside of the house, but I have not received any call. This might work, but I doubt it. The real way to fix this is to replace the sheet. I paid a lot of money for this contract, and I would like the warped **** replaced, instead of simply shingling over it.

Good afternoon, I have spoken with Mr. ***** in regards to this issue.  He has looked back on his notes from the job as well.  The installation of the new shingle roof has nothing at all to do with the warp look on his home. Mr. **** called and Mr. ***** went to see him and his roof.  Mr. ***** explained to him that this was not from the installation of the roof that we were contracted to do, but it is a structural problem with his home.  Mr. **** believed it was a rotten piece of **** that we neglected to replace. Furthermore, you can not install shingles on a rotten piece of ****, they will not hold.  If Mr. **** is convinced that there is rotten **** that we left, we can tear off the new shingles, cut out the warped **** and replace it with new ****, but over time it will warp again and look worse.  Mr. ***** stated that we would be more than happy to come and fix the structural issue for him, but we have to have time to be able to come and fix the problem.  The structural problem is that the trusses are too far apart and will continue to warp over time unless fixed. The correct way to fix this is to go through the attic and jack up the area and install a 2x4 there to support the trusses.  If Mr. **** would like for us to do this he just needed to let us know.  Thank you,******Blue Ridge Roofing and Home Improvement###-###-####

I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. It is true the installation of the roof had nothing to do with the warped ****, but the existing warped **** was simply shingled over. The contract said "bad boards" will be replaced at an extra cost.I have never said that this was a rotten piece of ****, you can look at the picture and tell it is a warped piece of ****.Their is no structural problem, the trusses are not farther apart at this section.I do not want roof contractors inside my home jacking up the roof. The **** should be replaced from the outside.

In general, bows are caused by age and improper spacing on the trusses or rafters which we do see.  We do not ever go over "bad boards".  If you had mentioned you wanted the bow to be removed before we started we would have been more than glad to replace it.  If a customer requests that we remove something like a warp or bow we do try our best to do that while we are installing the shingle roof.  We understand that you would like this warped **** removed and replaced.  That is not a problem.  We will be glad to remove the shingles and replace the section of **** that is warped and re-shingle it for you.  The cost for this is $650.00.  If you would like to have this work done please give me a call at ###-###-#### and we can get it scheduled for you as soon as possible.  Thank you,******Blue Ridge Roofing and Home Improvement

I measured all of the trusses on center for the section of roof in question. All are 24 inches.I have been emailing the ******* gov building engineer. He said 24 inches o.c. is the standard truss spacing, but truss spacing alone does not determine the structural integrity of the roof. Also, he said from the outside there is no way to tell if the roof structure is up to code. It must be assessed by a structural engineer from the inside. Many factors including species of ****, the grade of ****, and on and on. I had scheduled a structural engineer to do an analysis of my roof, to see if it is up to code.  But, your offer sounds reasonable and will be accepted. Thank you.Better Business Bureau: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution would be satisfactory to me.  I will wait for the business to perform this action and, if it does, will consider this complaint resolved. Regards, ******* ****
