We pay a little extra each month to Potomac Edison to cover repairs. When we contacted them about an issue with the lines, they sent us to Home-Serve, who put Kolb Electric onto the problem. They showed up the first day, but couldn't finish so said they'd be back the next week. They showed up the next week, but hadn't coordinated with PE to shut the power off, so said they'd be back the next week. They didn't show up, so we called and they said they'd be here today. They didn't show up, so we called and they said they'd be here on the 30th. The woman who answered the phone was clearly clueless. She asked US if WE had scheduled Potomac Edision. We're contacted Potomac Edison now to get us an electrical repair company which knows how to schedule a ********* appointment and keep it. Never again Kolb.

Because I have problems with electric replaced on 3/31/22 by Kolb Electric, I send a letter to Mr. Lovely manager on 2/13/23 and he never responded. The panel permit was never finalized; therefore, the panel was never inspected by a Fairfax County Inspector. Because I didn’t get any respond from Mr. Lovely or Brandon Kolb. I changed the permit to my name. The inspector from Fairfax came and failed the panel.

December 1, 2022 was the start date of a new property management property in Reston for me. As my client, the condominium owner was flying to Japan the tenant was moving in and as is often the case discovering minor flaws needing attention. One of which was an electrical item. Packers evidently scooped up a ceiling fan remote that was either destined for 3 years in storage or on a container ship traveling to Japan. I bought a compatible Hampton Bay remote/receiver at Home Depot for an electrician to install. I decided to try Kolb Electric for the ceiling fan job. I spoke with an appointment coordinator in Alexandria on the morning of December 6 who confirmed Kolb serves Reston. The conversation verified by my phone record was 12 minutes. I did not talk to the coordinator about the weather for that length of time. I described my need reporting that I was providing the remote/receiver simply looking for installation of it. I naturally asked her about Kolb’s labor rate and she said either $130.00 per hour or $135.00. I don’t recall exactly which but it sounded very reasonable and in the range of the others I tried. An electrician from the Kolb Lorton, Virginia location did the work on December 19, 2022. I was shocked learning the cost was $384.00, a few dollars short of 3 times the hourly labor rate I was quoted. Calling the tenant after that brief conversation the tenant said that the actual work was less than 15 minutes. He said it was very fast. I am accustomed to paying one hour of labor rate minimum for small tasks taking a fraction of an hour. Some trades tack on a modest trip charge. Fine, good, I get it but $384.00 in this instance is imo obscene price gouging. My effort to modulate the invoice was met with disingenuous review by a Kolb higher power going through a gauntlet of 3 blithe voiced office staff. They simply hit my card for $384.00. Beware, be wary and take heed with Kolb is my advice.

I find it hard to believe that no one has ever reviewed this company. I have been using Kolb Electric for many years. I have used them to add overhead canister lighting, replace plugs, and most recently to repair my ceiling fan. They are prompt, professional, and experienced.

I hired Kolb Electric in Rockville to replace a wired smoke detector. The service was conducted on a Friday and the replaced smoke detector starting beeping on Sunday. I called Kolb Electric on Monday and explained the situation but was informed that it would be another week, the following Monday before someone would be able to come out or i would have to pay for after hours service if I wanted someone sooner. Given the situation I'm left with listening to the continuous beeping or disabling the smoke detector for several days. Either situation is not acceptable.
