******* Towing was a towing company employed by my apartment complex up until this incident occurred (on July 2nd). Without informing the property manager and despite me giving advance notice to the property manager that I would have guests over, ******* Towing illegally towed my guest's vehicle. When I went to discuss the missing vehicle with the manager, she was unaware of what happened to the vehicle and called ******* Towing, who lied to us by stating that they did not perform any towing in the apartment complex during the past two days. Assuming the vehicle may have been stolen by a burglar, we called the police, who confirmed that the vehicle had been towed by ******* Towing. The manager and I then called the towing company a second time, with the police also on the phone; the towing company lied to us again until we mentioned that the police were listening to the call, after which they informed us that we must pick up the car at their office and pay $340. The lies prompted the manager to terminate the company that day. My guests and I went to pick up the vehicle, and the manage(?) of the company named **** first said we could not pick up the car until 4pm, told us we could only pay with cash despite having a sign saying they accept card, cursed at us repeatedly, and then threatened us off the property with a large stick. He also tried to lock my guest (who's car was towed) in the office room alone to have him try to retrieve his vehicle by himself, even though I had money on hand and was offering to pay. Only after speaking with two police officers, having the manager on the phone, and dealing with the company for over four hours were we able to finally pay the $340 and retrieve the vehicle. Checking reviews online and forums, it is clear that this company has a long history of illegally towing vehicles and extorting their owners for upcharged prices. I would describe **** and his company as thieves in the literal sense.Initial Complaint

At 2:30 pm on 6/4/2025, I noticed my car was missing in front of my building which was parked in the handicap space in front of **********************************************. I reached out to the *** representative in the building regarding any tow services in the area that may have taken my car which they mention Shanks Towing at ************************************* As I called to speak to someone from the company my call was received by a male who informed me they had my vehicle and I needed to make an appointment to pick it up and pay. I asked the representative why would they take my vehicle if I have placard for disability? In which he responded I did not and have to come down and pay the fee which I replied that isn't right to have my car taken and asked for further details which he didn't like and cursed at me and accusing me of over talking to him. I requested for him name in which he refused but still made the appointment to pick up my car. I called the police and they said there was nothing I could do with them but pay. When I went to speak to the person at the location it was the same person on the phone which I had asked him again if I could get his name and he still refused. I recorded a portion of our conversation over the phone where I asked him why did he curse at me but again it went nowhere and I ended up paying to have to get my card. He was being aggressive with me at the shop and I was scared and felt I was being forced to pay even though my placard was in the vehicle and it clearly states it doesn't expire until March of 2026. I would like to take legal actions on the situation because I felt his aggression was not necessary and I was forced to pay even though I had the credentials while parked in front of my own buidling. I am extremely traumatized from the experience it brought up a lot of anxiety for me. He had lied also stating he was at a central dispatch even though he was the same person who did my transaction.Initial Complaint

My vehicle was towed from the property i live on when a valid parking pass, the above tow company wanted to charge $180 to get the vehicle back. The lady i talked to several times was rude and argumentative. She told me the pass wasnt marked i advised it was as i checked it prior to placing in the window. She said well you didnt specify days. Regardless of that the pass was valid for April 2025 and shouldnt have been towed at all. They have had the vehicle for 5 hours and refusing to release itInitial Complaint

Shanks South ******** (**************), is a predictory towing company. They have towed my sons car several times. He has been living at ************************* for 1 1/2 years and parks in the same spot. They did not register his car as being towed and we thought it had been stollen. Failing to register car is a state violation. He finally got his car back on Monday with an unlawful tow fee over $240. They would not take his credit card, which is also a violation, and demanded cash. The stress and mental anguish will be report to the City Parking Division and a report will be sent to the city court.Initial Complaint

They towed my car knocked 5 dents in it , tore the bumper up, and broke a rear end gear by dragging with the transmission in gear this is a 60 thousand dollars sports car not a ***** , emailed and called my car was held while I waited a hour for someone to show up to retrieve it , the rear in this car cost over 10 thousand dollars alone this is purely incompetent people and should not be licensed to tow a golf cart me my wife and child's life was threatened by a employee when we tried to discuss it with them then the coward ran off , they also reported a fraudulent address on the released papers i guess because they were embarrassed my car was registered to the address it was towed from pretty incompetent as well but this is fraudulent to obtain payment by the means of fraud these people are nothing more than poor drug addicted looking for a fix look at them in person they are broke bums and shouldn't touch things they can't afford to fix , obviously they think a 180 dollars is alot of money they have huge issues in life I want the 15 thousand dollars worth of damage done to a car with 10 thousand miles on it and not one flaw until this trash touched it , this should be a ****** a broke bunch of bums shouldn't be in a towing business they obviously can't afford to fix a 60 thousand dollar car probably never sit in a car of this value very doubtful they ever will , this trash should be in jail they are horrible trash and that's being nice there are 100s of people these folks have done this too and got away with it. It's time to have them brought down a level they need to learn how to do there job or shouldn't be in business or allowed to be to touch others property without proper training how can you **** at towing something and damage it its pretty simple thus just shows this businesses pure incompetence and inability to run a towing business a bunch of druggies looking to get a fix this is what happens be professional for once take responsibility for being dumbInitial Complaint

Today my car was towed without any sign marking it as a place that could be towed. No phone number was listed to call, we had to call 5 different companies to get their number. Then they illegally are making me pay in cash even though I didnt have any cash. I feel exploited.Initial Complaint

On 10/3/24 my Mazda,AWD was towed from my sons complex, The Preserve, ******** between 6:45-7pm. We drove 600 miles from MA on 10/3, only stopped for a few minutes to drop off gifts. Thought since it wasnt a #d or reserved spot that we could park there. After ***** minutes in the apt, we came down,my car was missing. called PD thinking it was stolen. The ** said car was reported towed to Shanks Towing South, *************. My son drove us immediately to Shanks. At 7:43, I called to make an apt to pickup my car and was told 10pm, even though 2 other people were there with 8pm apts. I got an 8pm appt. Charged $215- when we drove 100 yards off the lot we heard a terrible noise. Called Shanks immediately to report a strange sound & went back to Shanks; the employee hurried behind a locked gate & told me not his problem, call at 8am when I told him s/t wrong w/ my car. We went to PD station across the street to file a report ( and called the next day) both times we were told they wouldnt take a report- it was a civil matter. We very slowly drove the 6 miles to *****. The next morning ***** completed an inspection with a video showing damage to the axle, transmission and drive shaft. ***** completed repairs 5 days later- on 10/8/24 we paid $7,465 for the repairs directly related to irresponsible towing. When towing an AWD, Shanks didnt use the necessary equipment (wheel dolly). On 10/4/24 I have a recorded conversation with a woman at Shanks phone # stating they always use dollies- she would not give her name or the name of management. She took my name and number and said she would have management call me back. They never did. Attached is a picture from The Preserve Apt complex surveillance camera, showing Shanks towing my car without a dolly. We filed a civil lawsuit, for repair *** with court date on 11/15 at ************************************. We hope insurance will cover it. Shanks shouldnt be in business- they use predatory towing & dont use proper equipment.Initial Complaint

Shanks towing towed my vehicle on 9/17 AND I HAD A VISTORS PASS IN THE WINDOW!! When I called, I was greeted my a man with a nasty attitude. Every time I spoke, he was rude. Even telling me dont cut him off as if I was a child. I tried my hardest to still remain respectful even after I was talked to inappropriately. When asked for his name, of course he stated he was unable to give it out. Its very disappointing to have did everything right just for them to say that they acknowledge the pass and took a picture of it, but said I did not circle the day the pass would start, I only circled the last day. I followed the instructions of my leasing office. When called back a few times, the person told my bf that he was not getting out of bed to assist us and we had to wait until 8am due to staffing. I had to be out of town early morning and he wouldnt even consider that after towing my vehicle I had a vistors pass in. I was told $180 to release the vehicle. Now I want my money returned and they need to do an immediate audit of hired employees who think they are an exception and above others. Its disgusting.Initial Complaint

This company illegally towed me from my place of residence with a valid parking pass. They claimed the pass was fraudulent and fabricated after they realized they illegally towed it. I have pictures and evidence to show the towing was not right.
