I am a senior at (the former) Stratford University with only three (3) classes left before I graduate. Stratford University closed its doors on 09/30/2022. I won a scholarship from my employer ********* ********** in the amount of $20,000 of which $12,175 was given to Stratford University for my remaining classes in early August. At this time I received an email confirming receipt of these funds and asking how they should be disbursed and I advised them accordingly. A couple of weeks later they (Stratford) lost accreditation and let go of over 30 employees. This was concerning. I called Diane M******* (Assistant Student Accounts Manager) several times and emailed her and to no avail. In early/mid-August we were told Stratford was closing. I was frantic. Being so close to graduating and having the rugged pulled out from under my feet was emotionally taxing however, trying to recoup these funds have been impossible. Calls go unanswered and/or phone lines have been "disconnected" - emails bounce back. I have reached out to the Department of Education who referred me to State Council of Higher Education for Virginia and they cannot help me since my award was from a third party entity. I rightfully won this money and for it to disappear is awful and concerning. Please see the attached supporting documents to support this compliant.

I started the nursing program with Stratford in October 2021. The school was aware that the crediting agency was being investigated. In May, they discussed with student very briefly and not in writing, regarding accreditation issues and advised us to continue registering for courses and to keep going as normal. We did. In August 2022 the ***** informed the school that it was no longer accredited. In September the school notified the students via a video conference that happened two weeks ago, saying that we will be OK, they will find creditors in the meantime, we later get news from professors, not administration, that they were informed about a 18 months teachout to get everyone out of the program however we apparently only have 15 months. They have verbally asked students to pay towards their loans and to keep registering for courses—using federal funds. In the meantime, teachers are quitting, advising students to find another school to complete our BSN program. Some students are left waiting because there is no room to get them into their clinical location, so while they are asking me to register for the next term starting in October, they will continue to take my federal funds, and then I will not make it through the 15 month teach out phase. I am due to “finish” December 2023. I have taken other course prior to the nursing and can assume responsibility for them but I would like my debt for all the nursing courses to be adjusted.

Previous student, contacted the university several times, Woodbridge campus, Alexandria campus, Falls Church campus where I recently attended which is no longer in that location has failed to respond to any requests in regards to my concern in returning to the *** program. *******'s (Stratford employee) daughter graduated from the nursing program and failed the same course several times, more than once and was able to graduate, however, my predicament was originally due to a loss in the family as well as medically based, which was documented by a healthcare provider and they dismissed me from the program when I only needed about 3classes left to graduate. I have not heard from anyone in regards to this concern, not one office provided me with a supervisors name or number when asked, asked how to send mail to the corporate office, reach out to the CEO or anyone directly under him, I was denied the information. I have completed more than half of the program and not one individual set out to help me or give me the opportunity to finish whilst others have and have posted their graduation photos online- students talk to eachother and I personally spoke with *******'s daughter and she was in the same pridicament I was in but they allowed her to retake a course after failing twice to graduate. All I want to do is finish my degree as I have paid money to them already and don't feel like my Fafsa was used correctly so the financial aid department is another issue within that school. I was about a semester or two away from graduation. It's just not right and I feel an injustice has been done. All I am asking for is the opportunity to finish as I was pretty much complete with the program. I need someone to contact me of power so I can understand why I have been treated in this manor and request an investigation be done. I have yet to hear from anyone at any of these campuses.
