On August 31, 2022 we were contacted by the City of St George that we had a significant water leak on our side of the water meter at our house. The city then shut off our water. We contacted Walker Plumbing to send a technician as soon as possible, since we had no water in our house. They sent one and he prepared an estimate (attached) of $4,930 (which seemed every excessive at the time, but we were desperate) for the following activities, and I quote the estimate: "Excavate for the new water service approximately 30' Excavate a trench from the water meter to the house. Provide and install new piping from the water meter to the house irrigation. Excavate a trench 12' wide by 18' deep. Provide and install new piping from the house to the meter. Backfill and compact as required. Re install the grass." The estimate also included 1000 ft of rock and soil for backfilling the trench. NONE of the above quoted activities were done. The fix ended up being MUCH simpler because the water main break was right next to the meter, so no trench was necessary. Just cutting some roots and replacing a short section (a few inches) of pipe. Also, Walker did not even replace the black water box and lid. Instead they just installed a green irrigation box and lid. Not sure if the city will even accept this. I have provided pics of what it looked like before the work and a pic of what it looked like after. I didn't take an actual picture before the work, so the attached BEFORE pic is of the water boxes of a neighbors' setup. It looked exactly like that. all the neighbors are the same.
