Despite being closed by the government for fraudulent activities, CEHE continues to conduct fraud against its former students. All of my federal loans were forgiven through a Borrower's Defense claim, but the college still claims I have private loans (approx. $4700) owed to them. They claim the charges are for a laptop (which I never received) and courses I never took. They have now reported this debt to the credit bureaus and it has negatively impacted my credit score. Any previous attempt I have made for documentation regarding this debt has been ignored because they know its not a valid debt! I have requested the documentation one final time, and if they ignore my request or send improper documentation again, I will have no choice but to involve a lawyer to have this settled in court. CEHE should not be allowed to negatively impact our credit scores with fraudulent debt claims.Review from Deborah O

Center for Excellence in Higher Education had Independence University, the university that I was enrolled with. Independence University had an EduPlan loan that covered where student loans and grants did not. After being enrolled for a year with IU, I got on the Student Aid website and it cost $22,000 in student loans and approximately $16,000 in **************** for one year. Why on earth would I have an EduPlan loan that was out of pocket expense? Additionally, the educational experience was far from good. It was lousy. Sorriest school I've ever attended. They didn't even tell me that they was on probation when I enrolled.***********************Review from Heather H

I have gotten contacted several times for years from College America and the college affiliates such as Independence University, Center for Excellence in Higher Education (not the federal program). The campus attended is in ********, ** business is not closed. ************************************** I have sent several payments to their mailing address for payments. Payments were sent back as returned mail. The amount from when I graduated has doubled according to the most recently received billing statement. 05/16/2022 amount owed $5,033.20 received an email with balance owed of $9,690.20 06/29/2022. The college has received all of the student loans when each semester started accept when I had to withdrawal from classes temporarily and when withdrawn from the classes that was before the withdrawal refundable dates. Is there supporting documents for every single thing probably not because according to the news the college got sued and the campus closed and I owe student loans from attending the college and their financing to the college.Review from Thomas m

I started my schooling at Independence University a few years ago. To attend the school I used my veteran benefits and the school did receive the paperwork for the authorization. In April, ************************************************************************************************ benefits, and stated my concerns but was told everything was fine. A few months later was told the school was closing. I submitted the paperwork for transfer to finish my degree. That process was far from easy. The school they said to transfer to I was unable to because of some state regulation. I did find a school and was able to transfer, no help from the school. I even had to pay to get my transcripts even though the school said I would not need to because I submitted the DocuSign for transfer. Now almost a year later Independence University has sent me an invoice over $8,000.00 for a loan. I did not use a loan to attend, nor did I take out a loan to attend. The whole time I was under VA benefits, and they know this. They also had tried to receive payment for a month of school for a class that was scheduled after the were shut down. Which did cause an issue with the VA because I was transferred to the school I am attending now, they had paperwork for the new school. When they attempted to get payment for a class I did not attend because they were closed, everything was flagged. This issue did cause complications with my payments and I lost a month of compensation. know I am waiting to hear back from them but have a feeling I will not get any responses.Review from Michael N

First of all, CCSD has clearly mislead not just me but many others who attended this school. The misleading advertisement promise getting WORK EXPERIENCE in the field of IT, which was false. They would use a program that you could purchase yourself called ******* which was not so hands on. Secondly, they had ***** financial practices, I remember when I first enrolled in the summer of *************************** its to register and they will keep all quiet. Interestingly enough there were two employees that I saw it firsthand that worked in the admissions department, were there for a while but soon were gone. Among other things, ********** is accredited to a shady Institute. Lastly, ********** decided to withdrew me because of my performance, most of it had to do with the stress and the depression I was the spot that I was dropped. Also as soon as I turned my laptop to CCSD I gladly kept a copy of the receipt, because I knew that they would send me an email asking me that I was charged because I didnt turn my laptop and I had to send a picture of my receipt. They would not help me cope with the stress and the depression I was going through, the only solution they saw was to drop me out.Review from Glenda E

I was attending Independence University since June 2020. I received an email the school was closing. I have had a credit on my account some of it has been sent out as a stipend but others as a EDUPLAN. I have yet to recover a stipend check. I have email the email address asking where my stipend is with no response. That is **************** that I am having to pay back. Since I decided to go to the out tech program with South University that money should be sent to that school. I wanna know where the money has gone to.Review from Heather S

Independence University needs to be completely transparent now. They are closed and after going for a year deserve a better explanation as to why. Also, I was set up making 25 payments a month on an Independence University website. Was I making the payments to the school and now they mean nothing? Plus, if I don't make a payment in a few days, it WILL hit my credit score. I just do not feel comfortable sending more money to a website that has lost credibility. No one will reply either. This wehearyou@independence is crap. When I eventually get a reply, it is one sentence, not explaining a thing. Err. I loved the school all up until this point.Review from Ashley F

I was 3nrolled in independence university in 2021 in feb. I had no problem until they closed the school and I got adding numbers. None of my financials add up. I would like to talk to someone but cant reach anyone as all numbers are disconnected. They said I qualified for a pell grant but didnt use all of it, according to dept of education there is 330 dollars missing of it. I cant reach anyone and the school they told me I could transfer to has never heard of me. I had a 4.0 gpa and was doing great and living it. But once they closed everything got shady.Center for Excellence in Higher Education Inc. Response

I enrolled in this school excited to get my bachelors, not even worried about how much it would cost me. (A lot!!) I’m a year in and I’m extremely ill. In and out of the hospital and they won’t let me take a hiatus. Instead they’ve dropped me from the school with a huge sum to pay off and I get nothing in return. I knew this was a mistakeCenter for Excellence in Higher Education Inc. Response

I attended ten years ago and received an Associate Degree in Medical Specialties. This has proven to be a worthless degree. The school is not recognized by any higher level of education. There are no courses that are transferable for college credit. I will continue to pay towards a remaining $38,089.32 tuition debt for the remainder of my life. For my "internship", I was placed at Hands Over Hearts as a file clerk. This had nothing to do with Medical Specialties. I was told the market was flooded with students and there was nothing appropriate available. I was naive enough at the time to believe in this system. What can be done not only for me, but for other students out there who want a chance to become productive citizens of our society and not be scammed by such an organization?Center for Excellence in Higher Education Inc.
