On November 13, 2017, Department of Occupational and Professional Licensing (DOPL) placed Carver Mortuary Service's license on probation for five (5) years following a previous suspension for allegations of misconduct that include mixing ashes, leaving bodies unrefrigerated and stealing jewelry from the deceased.
On November 2, 2017, DOPL suspended the license of Carver Mortuary Service, LLC, the license of Tanner Carver and the license of Shane Westmoreland to engage in the practice as a licensed funeral service director
Under the terms of the probation, Carver Mortuary will be operated by another funeral director and indicated Tanner Carver or Shane Westmoreland could not have leadership roles in the business during the probation period. The mortuary must also fund an outside funeral service director who will oversee business operations and report back to DOPL on its progress. They must also submit a victim redress plan and notify those families where discrepancies occurred. Carver Mortuary was ordered to pay $10,000 fine which could increase to $50,000 if the mortuary fails to meet any of the terms described in the order.
