My mother was a resident of Rock Ridge Assisted Living and Memory Care for 6 ½ years. During that time, she paid the company $448,989.82 for the privilege of living in their facility. When she died on 10/22/22, my son removed her personal possessions from the premises on 10/23/22, with the exception of her flat screen TV. The flat screen TV had been secured to the wall by maintenance and could not be removed by my son without damaging the wall. Maintenance was not available to remove the TV for him because it was a Sunday, and they were not on site at the time to help. I was not notified until October 26th that the TV was still hanging on the wall (I live in Indiana, and my son works full time Monday through Friday, and also cares for my autistic grandchild). As soon as I was informed on 10/26 (3 days after my mother's death) that maintenance had still not removed the TV, I asked them to make sure that it was removed by maintenance, and my son was then able to pick up the TV that same day. They continued to charge me rent for the 3 days that the TV was hanging on the wall. As a result, it ended up costing me an additional $599.52 simply because there was a TV hanging on the wall for 3 days. A TV on the wall would NOT have kept them from cleaning the room or showing it to a prospective new resident...and if they were going to continue to charge me rent until maintenance took the TV off the wall, I should have been notified immediately rather than 3 days later. I find it callous and reprehensible for a company which made almost half a million dollars off of my mother to take advantage of a grieving family in such a manner. When maintenance failed to remove the TV on Monday, I should have been notified IMMEDIATELY that the presence of the TV on the wall was going to result in me being charged $199.84/day (her rent was $6,195/month) until it was removed. I would like a refund of the $599.52 for the 3 days of rent I was charged simply because a TV hung on their wallBusiness response
