My first complaint is I contacted Solar SME to install solar panels on my house. They promised in their advertisement and talking with their sales team to work with me to gain the best possible rebates from the government, both federal and state. They were aware by their own admission of certain state rebates that were coming out in January but yet decided not to fully disclose them to me at the time of my purchase in October. This wouldve saved me $7500. The second complaint is their empty promises to complete the project before the end of the year. I was told it was necessary to be completed so I make sure that I received the federal tax rebate. I figured out later this must have been a scare tactic to get me to sign right away. They did not finish the project until March 2025. They also made me stay home from work on at least 8 days in which they did not show up and or they showed up late and only worked a couple hours and then left causing what they told me to be a 2-day project to last for several months. My lost pay from work is $4705 The third complaint is the substandard workmanship which can be verified by pictures My fourth complaint is the technician who were working on my house were not electricians' they were roofers and labors working on my electric panel. In doing so they destroyed my pool pump by turning on the breaker that was labelled to remain off for winterizing causing it to burn up. This cost me $1000. to replace. The owner of the company admitted they were labors and not electricians. Fifth complaint is they promised a referral fee of $1000 if I referred to someone to signed up for their services I did, and it was my daughter. They have yet to pay me for that referral.Lastly, they did not reimburse me for the permit filed with the county $62 I have documented all of these backed up and confirmed with email and text messages and have made several attempts to resolve.Business Response

I was scammed by solarsme. I got a solar system and wasn't informed by solarsme which has been in business since 2017, and knows the utility providers and a major one swepco doesn't equally compensate for solar energy sent to them. so instead of just getting inverters and batteries to begin with i got a solar system with micro inverters which those inverters wouldn't be needed as solar panels would go directly into a hybrid *********** then when I realized this months later i contacted them about battery backup so that I could store the energy instead of sending to utility. they sold me a junk inverter battery system, and lied to me while selling to me. it was a newer in the market company and solarsme said they had installed tons of them. and they're amazing systems. when installers got there they didn't know what they were doing, and said they had never installed this system before, and I was the first for solar sme. I have had nothing but problems with this system. right now I even have a micro inverter down, and system keeps tripping a 30 amp solar breaker and shutting half the system off. they said they'd send and come to replace, and fix system, and they haven't. the battery system has now been down for 4 months, and solar sme is doing nothing.Business Response

We purchased 55 solar panels installed by Solar SME in 2023 for $58k. Additionally, I paid for another warranty to cover anything Solar SME did not cover. I just learned that I need a new roof and I will have to get my solar panel detached and reattached. I spoke with *** ****** on July 1st and he sent me my original agreement that indicates that I have to use Solar SME for the aforementioned warranty or I will void my contract. After I reviewed the contract, I signed it and agreed with $300 per panel to be detached and reattached. The next day *** called me and stated that he undercharged me and that I need to pay for a crane, more labor etc because my roof is "steep" and the new price is $420 a panel. I told him that I did not feel comfortable paying that amount. I told him to talk to my insurance company before I sign a contract because I already signed one. Yesterday on 7/7 I spoke with **** from Solar SME and he told me and the insurance *** that I only have to pay the $300 per panel as signed in the contract. Additionally, he told me that *** is in sales and that he did not fully understand what I needed as a customer. At around 7:30 pm that night, *** calls me to discuss the project; however, I told him that I was not available and we can speak tomorrow at 2 pm. I spoke with *** today, 7/8 at 1:00 pm and he said that the best price he can do is $400 a panel and that he will take the crane out of the contract. I have 2 people, from the same company, quoting me 2 different prices. I don't know who to believe. At this point I don't trust anyone there. Then *** put the manager on the phone for me to resolve the issue with. He told me that I can pay $375 a panel. I feel like this is price gouging; especially when other license ********************** companies charges $250-$300 a panel. I feel like Solar SME contracted me out and I'm speaking with 2 different contractors for 1 company. How can they charge me 43% of the $58k that I paid to get them installed?Initial Complaint

On 6/3/2024, we signed a contract with SolarSME for solar panel installation. Over the course of the project, we paid $32,670, on time. As a part of the contract, we were supposed to receive a $1000 ***** Gift Card upon completion of installation. The permission to operate was received 9/26/2024, and activation occurred 10/15/2024. Although we had other issues with communication and installation (see attached emails), the main thing we are looking for is the gift card that we were promised contractually. We tried on several occasions to remind the company, and they have ghosted us.Customer Answer

I purchased solar system not even 2 years ago and it's not working. I found out today all panels are bad because they were chewed. Now the company says they not covered and I must pay for new installment with critter guards. They never offered me critter gaurds when I bought them now my entire system ruined and they don't cover anything.Business Response

We are very sorry to hear about the recent issue with your solar system and understand how frustrating this situation must be.
After reviewing your file, we confirmed that your original sales agreement did not include critter guards. These are optional accessories that many homeowners choose to add based on local wildlife activity and environmental conditions. Our sales representatives typically offer them upon request or when a specific risk is identified, but unfortunately, they were not included in your package at the time of installation.
That said, we want to help you navigate this issue. In many cases, damage caused by animals such as squirrels may be covered under your homeowners insurance policy. We strongly recommend filing a claim with your insurance provider. Should you choose to do so, we would be more than happy to coordinate directly with them to facilitate the repair or replacement process and to ensure the system is protected moving forward, including with the addition of critter guards.
Again, we truly empathize with your situation and are committed to working with you toward a resolution.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because: I have for weeks been trying to get an estimate on the cost to fix my system. I can not get any updates and I am stuck paying for a system not in use and no communication with you. I currently have a system that is not working and no way to be able to fix it because you have not given me the next steps for weeks. How long does this take?

The first email conversation with Solar SME ( *** ****** was on 12 the November. We had a agreement that 3 EG4 Tesla Battery Modules will be installed for my home. I paid advance of 2,885$ on 8th August 2024. We had a buffer and according to the contract the last date of installation was 30th November. There is no installation, and Solar SME is still not providing me with the refund of the advance. We have tried calling for 3 months now and spoke with everyone in the company and they are just providing false promises that the refund will be provided tomorrow or this week. Please help me to get my refund back.Customer Answer

I have a solar system with 2 backup batteries that was installed about 3 years ago. It has 40 solar panels, 40 micro inverters, 2 inverters and 2 battery systems. In mid December, was informed that one of the micros was not communicating and a replacement would be sent. At that time I noticed that my system was only charging one battery. I informed them of this and given a case number and told to contact *********, manufacturer of batteries/inverters. The microinverter panel was delivered to my home in late December. With the holidays I contacted ********* in early January and after troubleshooting the system for several hours the I was instructed to contact the seller/installer to have an electrician come to my house to look at the ********** a month later and NO ONE has been to my house to service my system. I've gotten vague replies as to when someone will be here. Told last week that someone was going to come but the weather was too bad. I notified the company this week on Monday that our forecast was clear and sunny for the week. I have yet to gotten a reply. And I know almost for certain that when an Electrician does come that parts/warranty items will needed to be ordered causing further delays and possibly again waiting months for someone to do the final repairs.I have incurred electric bills for the last several months now that should be reduced and or even possibly credits.I am also concerned that the person who they will send knows nothing about the inverter/battery system. This is the tech who did the solar panel install but NOT the electrician who did the battery/inverter installation. And in talking with the tech in the past he said that he knew NOTHING about the inverter/battery system. I have told my concerns to the company but am still hearing that this is who they plan on sending.Business Response

I decided to install solar panels. I contacted energysage .com and received several quotes. Solar SME people were very pushy and called me incessantly until I broke down and signed with them. I paid them over 4K to get started. After that all communications ended. They would not update me on the progress and I reached out to them it took forever to find anything out. In October of last year I had some living situation changes and decided that I may need to sell my house. Naturally, I did not want to invest in this house. I informed Solar SME that I want to cancel the project. SO far they had not spent any money on my project. When I asked them to refund my deposit, not only they charged me an unreasonable cancelation fee of 3k they even failed to return they rest of the amount and it is now JanuaryBusiness Response

When I received my solar installation, I was not given the software or application to keep up with solar usage. I requested it at three different occasions and still did not receive it. I have since had an inverter fail and did not discover it until two months later in my electric bill. Since notifying Solar SME of the issue, I have had repeated assurances that it would be replaced and it still hasn't. I am now three months without my solar panels producing electricity in spite of the system being under warranty and have been given nothing but excuses and delays. The business model for Solar SME is to use texts and avoid emails and paper trails and has the entire aura of lack of professionalism about it. I live in rural ******** where many of my neighbors believe solar is a scam. I am deeply committed to environmental causes, but sadly this feels like they may have been correct. I will definitely be advising against any business with this company. ***** this company at all cost if you want to avoid an endless hassle for any type of maintenance.Business Response

I contracted with SolarSME on January 3, 2024 to install a solar system. This was after several months of their sales people calling and pressing me to move forward. It has been almost 12 months now, and they have delivered the materials, dropped in my driveway in September. But nothing has been done to install. I have repeatedly asked them to either complete the job, or remove the materials. They have done neither.Their installer is concerned about digging where the plans call for, and I understand. I have scheduled times for the install, and nothing has been done. The materials were literally "Dumped" in my driveway, and have been there for months. I have asked repeatedly to have them moved, they claim they will be installed "Soon." Yet it has not happened.Last correspondence was last Friday (December 6, 2024), they said they were going to alter the plans to make the installer comfortable. I have not heard from them since, although I have repeatedly messaged them. I have asked them to remove the materials from my driveway one last time. Still have no response.Business Response
Date: 01/20/2025
Hi ***, Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. We sincerely apologize for the delays and lack of communication regarding your solar system installation. We understand your frustration with the prolonged timeline, the materials left on your driveway, and the lack of follow-through on our commitments.
To address your concerns, we have taken the following steps:
We have switched the installation crew to ensure the panels are installed in a location of your choosing.
The install crew raised same concerns about the safety of installing posts underground for the carport due to the presence of pipes and wiring that could potentially be damaged during the process.
Based on their recommendation, we are now exploring an alternative solution involving a shade structure. Our team is working diligently to determine how this can be implemented effectively to meet your expectations.
We are committed to resolving this situation promptly. You will receive a detailed update, including a timeline for the installation or material removal, by [specific date, e.g., within two business days].
Thank you for your continued patience and understanding as we work to find the best solution for your project.Customer Answer

Throughout the course of this project, Solar SME, Inc. has made every sincere effort to bring the installation to completion. We worked diligently over several months, including assigning two separate visits, revising designs based on the customers feedback, coordinating multiple on-site visits, and proposing various solutions to meet the customers preferences.
Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, the project could not move forward due to concerns from the customer on site regarding physical placement of solar array on site. While we remained flexible and proactive in addressing those concerns, a mutually agreeable path forward could not be reached.
As a result, all materials were retrieved from the property, and the project was placed on hold. The contract had long passed the cancellation window, and the $2,200 payment made by the customer was applied toward actual project-related costs incurred by Solar SMEthis included permitting fees, site inspections and the shipping of materials to and from the location.
We truly regret that this project could not be completed, as our goal is always to deliver a positive experience and a successful installation. Solar SME, Inc. remains committed to transparency and professionalism, and we stand by the fact that we acted in good faith at every stage of this engagement.Customer Answer
