Absolutely horrible experience. Dropped my loved one off at 2 pm and received no further communication after that. At 10:15 the following morning, we received a call from my loved one in the ER of the local hospital. He was at Vertava for alcohol medical detox and was there for 20 hours and received zero medications. They told him they needed his BAC to be zero before starting medications. He stated his BAC was zero at 11:30pm; the facility later told us “early morning.” Some member of staff made the decision that even though his BAC was zero and per their protocol, medications should be started, they decided that it could wait until the doctor got around to seeing him, which didn’t happen before he had a seizure. He has previously had a seizure with withdrawal, so the facility was well aware of the risk. They did not even contact our family to let us know he had a seizure and was transported by ambulance to the local hospital. A physician finally called after I called the facility and insisted on someone speaking to us. Once at the hospital, we received zero communication and our family felt that it would not be safe for our loved one to return to Vertava. Our loved one was even willing to return, but we had to jump through hoops to even get through to talk to anyone about him returning. Another consideration is that the facility is very open. The patients have to leave the facility to walk to another building for food, art, etc. There is a liquor store directly across the street. It would be very easy for any patient to sneak away to get liquor or anything else. After this horrible experience, I would not recommend Vertava at all.
