            My elderly mother contracted with Axis Van Lines for a move from the greater Houston area to San Francisco suburbs. Axis provided a quote sight unseen despite her requesting that a rep come to see her belongings as she explicitly stated that we did not want any surprises, and they declined. She lived in a 1000 sq ft, 2BR apt and moved to a 1BR app 700 sq feet. We signed a firm fixed price contract. The movers called her less than 48 hrs before the scheduled date and pushed the date up by 24 hours, striping her of her last day of preparation and adding tremendous stress. She HAD to agree to the shift as they told her that if she did not agree the move would be delayed by a week or more and she had cancelled her lease and had literally no where to go; a heavy handed move to say the least. The movers arrived and grossly overpacked her belongings, inflating the volume of her household items significantly. This resulted in a bill more than TWICE what they contracted for.

            My husband and I had a really positive experience with this mover. They got our things to Chicago, in pretty much one piece. A broken lamp, and a cracked picture frame. Other than that, everything went well. I have filed an insurance claim on the two broken items, and am awaiting reimbursement. Great job, Northern!
