Subject: Extremely Dissatisfied with Emergency Room Service I am writing to express my profound dissatisfaction with the service at Spartanburg Regional Hospital's emergency room. My 96-year-old mother, urgently directed there by her doctor due to critically low blood work, endured a distressing 9-hour wait without anyone providing assistance or information. The lack of care and empathy from the hospital staff was disheartening. In desperation, I had to take my mother home as she could no longer sit up and pleaded to go to bed. This experience has left me deeply concerned about the quality of care provided at your facility.Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System Response

Do not recommend. Do everything you can to find out costs before you receive treatment here! I went for physical therapy and it was in-network. My therapist was amazing, but the office would not tell me up front how much my visits would cost (I tried to find out) and they also don't disclose that because the office is housed in the hospital, they charge extremely inflated rates. (Over $4,000 for 7 visits. Typically PT in SC, not in a hospital, costs $60-$125 per visit, or between $100-$250 if uninsured and doing self-pay.) I have received PT in the past, so I had an idea of costs, but this was unlike anything I've ever been charged. I have spent months trying to decipher the charges, worked with a patient advocate from my insurance company, and talked with representatives from the hospital (who were unprofessional and condescending.) One of them told me I should be glad because "I was actually getting a good deal." My patient advocate and I waited on hold for 45 minutes. Calls were not returned from a supervisor I left a message for. In the end, after multiple phone calls and even presenting them with reseach about going rates for PT, nothing could be done and I had no choice but to set up a payment plan. I also had two separate employees tell me that they have been trying to work with the hospital to get them to provide better transparency and disclosure because it's a recurring issue.Review from MDBS

SRHS Surgery North Grove Would give entire SRHS system 0 stars if that was an option. I would strongly recommend a different Healthcare system. The process of getting a periumbilical hernia repaired has becoming one of the most traumatic events of my life. First I was sent for procedures that supposedly needed to be done prior to surgery. I find out from my PCP, that the screening colonoscopy was relevant because if family history. The EGD, not necessary, as it was clear I had a hernia. That was why she referred me to surgeon. I have very good insurance, which I am fortunate for. Yet, even though I knew from my Benefits Coordinator what I would be responsible for paying prior to this orocedure ($194), they attempted to extort me into paying over $1000. Then because I was protesting, as I knew this was not the amount, tried to act as though I was some type of physical threat. Despite the fact that I never threatened or even hinted at a threat against any person. Had procedure following month, paid my >>>$194<<<. Everything's good, right. Nope. I then had a reaction to the anesthesia. Horrible. Not their fault in least on that part. Yet when I met with surgeon and discussed my fears of having similar reaction after hernia surgery, brushed off as if there's nothing that can be done. Want to point out, I wanted to meet with the anesthesiologist to discuss my options. The surgeon is not the anesthesiologist. At one week post op, surgeon checks everything. It's fine, except one spot splitting near bottom of incision. Assured it's normal, nothing to worry about. Healing well. He replaces my non stick gauze with regular gauze with the most amazing med tape I've ever used. Unfortunately that regular gauze stuck to my incision and ripped it partially open. After this one week check up, I developed a surgical site infection. Horrible. Exceptionally painful. I was just uncomfortable with the thought of going to SRHS ER after my experience with their surgeon and went to Prisma instead. Best thing I have ever done. Of course, dr at ER told I needed to follow up with surgeon within next few days. He also must have either sensed my hesitation or has had prior patients with issues from SRHS. He told me if for any reasony surgeon didn't do the things he had suggested that I was free to come back and he'd get one of their surgeons to look at me. I did go back to SRHS Surgeon, they are ones who did surgery and should have known best what state my incision was in. That visit actually went decently. Have follow up of infection status on Friday. I had initially been scheduled for today but had to reschedule. As in I had no other option. Lady tells me I have an appt on 17th already. Well duh, that's the one month follow up. Then tried tried push me off 10 days. When I'm needing to be seen for an obviously still active infection. When there is a possibility of needing this reopened apparently. When the incision has closed at top where it split from infection. When they have no idea if this infectjon is related to my body rejecting this implant. These symptoms, including the infection, could be a sign of rejecting the implant. Now it is splitting at the bottom again, after having finally closed. Still have drainage. There's at knot under top of incision that is not scar tissue. I had to by sutures from CVS to hold new spot closed. There's been no concern from them. My OOP maximum is 4k. Prior to even have the hernia repair, we had paid over $1200. They made me pay an ADDITIONAL $3250 before the hernia repair. They refused to listen, would not assist. Just fed me a line about how payments would show after insurance paid, blah, blah, blah.. Just assured me any overpaid money would be returned. I had to borrow money from my company to pay for this. I only budgeted and saved the 4k. Besides co-pays and certain deductibles, that 100% should have been my maximum payment. It shows these payments on my McChart. Yet my money hasn't been applied to ANY of my claims filed by SRHS. The 1k was over 2 months ago. My insurance company has paid completely for multiple claims. As to that 3,250 I had to pay for my surgery? Never applied to anything. Insurance has paid over 34k on hag procedure alone. They paid 100% of the anesthesia fees. According to the surgeon, I still owe an additional $150. Along with helpful reminders to pay this amount before it becomes past due? Seriously?? Yet, they have not applied a single penny of the money I've already paid? SRHS is who is past due. I reached out to billing, they left me a message while I was working. Well, thanks to these guys stealing and keeping the money I need to pay back. It was loan. I've been back at work since only 3 days after my surgery and have not taken off a single day since then. I have the time statements to prove it. Yet, they want me to pay more? Nope. I can only reiterate, if my $150 payment is past due then their crediting of my 4,250 in payments should be in collections by now.Review from Lacy G

Spartanburg Regional Transportation is the most horrible transportation company that exist in this county! The drivers are rude and disrespectful. The company itself is slack and unprofessional. You schedule your ride as the ask (3 business days in advance) and they are always late for picking you for your appointment and waiting a minimum of 2-3hrs past your schedule drop off time. No one calls and advise you of their tardiness. When you do call they tell you “just be patient we are running behind and someone will be there to get you.” This is for sure a company who doesn’t not support their mission statement. I don’t not recommend them and they really don’t deserve a star rating at all.Review from Richard B

I recently was a patient at Spartanburg Regional heart care. The room I stayed in was old and tired. I attempted to shower my second day there, but was unable to…the shower-head leaked profusely and the water was never hot much less warm. The bathtub was dirty and the tile on the floor was moldy. All of the equipment was antiquated, including the old brown chair/recliner and cheap/thin mattress. I slept very little.
