Worst experience EVER...BUYER BEWARE...... we had ****** custom roofing and construction come to our home to give us an estimate on replacing our roof he put up some tarps and had us to sign something saying that it was giving him permission to speak with our insurance company.......that turned out to be what he thought was a contract for him to do the work ....we were still in the process of getting prices for our roof to be replaced..... when we went with a different company he sent us a bill for over $3000 saying this was the cost of him putting up the tarps, that we never asked him to do
( actually we asked him not to put them up because we knew we still had more contractors coming ) and that the insurance company had him to take down because they needed to do their assessment.....Now almost a year later we went to court and the judge threw out his case...... BOTTOM LINE .....YOU CAN'T PUT A LEIN ON SOMEONES HOME AND SUE THEM BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T USE YOUR COMPANY.......AGAIN BUYERS BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We inspected interior damage on the house and it was too wet for SCC to inspect on the roof and need SCC to come back at a later date to inspect the roof when it was dry. Stephen S and two members of one of his crews, came back to property on August 18, 2020, SCC tarped the roof with 3 tarps to protect the interior from further damage, as expect by insurance carriers. SCC found there was hail damage on the roof and other areas of the house. Stephen S went over a Work Authorization Contract and explained its meaning. Kimberly signed as her mother. Sometime between the 18th and 25th of August, we (Stephen, ladder assist guy, adjuster, and Christopher) met at the job, the roof was denied by the ladder assist guy. Stephen disagreed vehemently with the ladder assist guy's findings. SCC had a crew go back out on 26th and take off tarps and send "test squares'' to the insurance company to show damage that we found, which the adjuster agreed with and provided coverage for the roof and interior damage based on our findings. Normally with a job like this, the insurance company will send out a Scope of Work within 3 or 4 days. Stephen called Christopher a few times and he said that he had not gotten anything from the insurance carrier, then Stephen called 6 to 8 days after the adjuster meeting, and Christopher let him know that his mother-in-law was being difficult and said that she had wanted her own people to come and do the work and Stephen asked if she was aware that we were the reason that the insurance company provided coverage. He said yes. A lot of customers in the past were trying to take advantage of our company using our expertise to help them get provided coverage for their loss from their insurance company. That is why I have changed my contracts to Work authorizations so that we can protect our labor and efforts. Not sure why someone would expect SCC to meet with their adjuster, help provide coverage for their loss, install tarps, take them down, and reinstall them free of charge.
As the owner, and someone who has helped the homeowner work with the insurance company to get the claim approved, I do find that they were non appreciative, however I did put the tarps up and should have been paid.
What I have learned from this experience is that I will not go to court without an attorney again. I will also make sure with out a shadow of a doubt that the customer is aware that they are signing a contract and liable for any service done on / during my visit. (Although I do feel this is done already I will work harder on my clarity with any future customers).
