I purchased a home bar kit from Basement Home Bars in late July 2024, At that time, the website states that the turnaround time for a bar build is 3 to 4 months and the customer can follow the progress on biweekly PDFfiles that are released on the website. Along the way, customers are supposed to receive photos of the update on the build. It is now June 20 ********************************************** even photos of any progress. I have been in contact via email with the sales department since the beginning of May2025 and I have email correspondence stating that photo updates will be sent soon and I have now been placed on the expedited list but still I have not received any type of confirmation of the new timeframe as to when to expect my product. My concern is thatthis company is a scam and I may never receive my product.Business Response

I entered into an agreement with **** at "***********************" for him to make a custom bar. This took place in April 2024. I was quoted a delivery of 6 to 8 weeks. After many inquiries by me, I finally received the bar in late September which was approximately 20 weeks after the order was placed. To sum it up, the bar is a piece of junk that I would be ashamed to put in my home without a huge amount of rework. The material is cheap and flimsy. It is cheap plywood. There is no finish on the edges. The stain finish that was applied to the flat surfaces is of very poor quality and needs to be sanded down and redone. Nail holes are not filled in. The dimensions of the bar are incorrect. The bar will not even go together properly.I tried my best to work it out with ****. He simply stopped responding to me after a few emails where he blew off my *********** not buy anything from this company unless you want to be very disappointed.Business Response

Many things wrong with ******* ******** assessment. He was sent pictures of his build along the way and approved them every time. He calls the bar top a shelf and the shelf the bar top. He sends me pictures of the bar 20% assembled, saying that it's flimsy. Well, it wasn't completely put together, so of course. Then says I had unfinished edges, but again, he approved all of his updates and pictures, and the bar was built exactly to spec using the materials always used. ****, the whole product line is accurately described on the website. Then says give me $500 or else I'll do this and that, one of the things being to complain here. There should be a site where companies can go to review customers and then have them added into a database so that a company can then make an educated decision on whether to do business with the person, especially if the product is a custom built item. No *******, your complaints are invalid because you approved the entire build before I shipped it internationally to you (at a price anyone else would be crazy to offer by the way). I am rejecting this response because:The pictures provided to me to approve were general in nature and did not detail the extremely poor quality of the build. The pictures also did not detail the incorrect size of the bar tops. To make excuses that it is okay for the supplier to provide poor quality as long as it is not detected until it is received by the customer is just another indication of the unprofessional nature of this business. Another point. The product was not shipped internationally. It was sent to ********** NY where I crossed the boarder and picked it up.
Trust me. If I had read all the complaints against this company before hand I never in a million years would have ordered anything from such a shoddy vendor.
Before I suggested to the vendor that he reimburse me $500 to cover my costs of bringing his shoddy work up to standard, I tried to work with **** to try to come to a path forward. None was forthcoming so I suggested the reimbursement.
The reason I didn't fully assemble the bar was that it was built incorrectly and the pieces do not go together. Another example of the extremely poor workmanship of this company.
Again, for **** to bring up such a ***** example that I may or may not have called a part of the bar by the wrong name shows he is grasping at straws.

I reject his continuing insults and the wasting of my time to answer his little notes. He was a Canadian customer, I don't care that he crossed into ** to pick up his boxes. The bar of course went together, I showed him pictures of all of that. And I'm *****? I'm not saying I'm perfect, but this nastiness is just comical at this point. On 10/12/2024 I contacted ************************** to commission a custom bar for my home. On 10/16, I received the estimate and paid $737.50 as a deposit to begin work on my bar as per our agreement. On 10/17 I decided that I wanted to upgrade the countertop and added the elbow rail to the build for an additional $150, which I received another estimate and paid immediately. Since I had not received any communication from **** *****, I started to do some more research on his company and found the mile long list of BBB complaints about **** specifically and his company. I then proceeded to ask for a refund on 10/24 because I was not comfortable with the reviews I found. He said he would do the refund but then explained that I could wait and pay the final balance until after the product arrived if that made me feel more comfortable. Although I was still uncomfortable, I proceeded to go ahead with the build. However, I had already contacted my banks in the meantime to get a refund because the negative reviews said that he will communicate up front until he gets your money and then he will just take your money and run. When I asked him about the lead time on 11/4, it appeared that he was nowhere near starting my build, already 2 weeks in to a 6-8 delivery timeline. While I did get the $737.50 back from my bank (only because I reported it), **** now refuses to respond to my email and will not refund my remaining $150 for work he has not performed. I have attached the email where he agrees to refund the money but has yet to do so.Business Response

I ordered a custom bar from John's Bars. He quoted me $1,467.90. I paid a deposit of $733.95. I've been dealing with the owner, **** *****. John originally stated that it would take 10-12 weeks for the bar to be completed. I've routinely asked for updates since I paid the deposit. He said it would be done in "a week or two" on November 28, 2022. He said, "We'll get that through production completely next week" on December 8, 2022. He said, "shipping happening in a week or so" on January 9, 2023. He said, "I'm shooting to have you wrapped up and into shipping this week" on January 29, 2023. I've sent numerous emails since the 29th, but have received no responses. It has been 34 weeks since John received my deposit. I still have no bar and have received no refund. This appears to be a common occurrence when dealing with John's Bars. The company has 99 complaints to the Better Business Bureau. I gave John's Bars over $700 and have nothing to show for it and they've stopped communicating with me.Initial Complaint

On 9/14/22 I ordered a bar from HBK.com and worked with **** on going through the quote process all the way up to payment. Once order was placed I waited and followed his instructions to check the UPDATE PDF sheet on the website every two weeks for updates on the progress of the bar. As time kept passing by my order was moving up on the list which was a lot longer than the up to 12 weeks as advertised. This was not a big deal as the 2 weeks updates have been progressing. On 2/9/23 I received and email from the sales email account at HBK.com saying the bar was almost done and pictures would be coming in the following week. I have reached out to the email a couple times asking if the update was still coming or not. On the 2/13/23 UPDATE PDF the order showed built so I again was still waiting for the next steps in the process which **** explained to me at time of quoting pictures to confirm then they finish the job and ship. On the 2/28/23 UPDATE PDF my order is no longer on the list. I emailed **** and the sales email asking if there was a mistake and heard nothing back. I called left a voicemail to follow up on what is going on. I then reached out through the website on chat about inquiring and sure enough got a quick response. I even had **** calling me to discuss my inquiring, but when I asked him about the status update as our name is no longer on the UPDATE PDF sheet he said hold on a minute then hung the phone up. LITERALLY HUNG THE PHONE UP. I was willing to give **** the benefit of the doubt as its a small business and as the time kept moving along the more the reviews out there started to turn real. I was willing to wait for the bar as long as it was working on, but it seems like everything of a scam is turning true. Now it seems that instead of just getting a simple update on a bar order that is into its 20th week and the bar I paid for I am going to be reaching out to small claims court to get my money back so I can go else where.Initial Complaint

We ordered a bar from homebarkits.com on 8/6/22 and paid the required 50% deposit; signed the contract and even spoke with **** on the phone. Build time was estimated at 10-12 weeks with a commitment to send pictures of progress along the way. We started emailing for status In October 2022 and after several days, would get a response; usually an excuse (I was sick) or a promise (I will have an update to you when I return to my office). Repeatedly asked for pictures of our progress, since at one point, he said we were 2 weeks from shipping. One month later, he told us he was home sick again but our bar was ready for framing. That was his last reply to us on 12/5 and the following emails requesting pictures, and update, and finally requesting a refund, have been ignored. Order a bar from this company who currently goes by Home Bar Kit. The bar was 12 weeks late and the finish was extremely poor with scratches on the front and corners of the bar. The bar was missing the cabinet doors when it was installed. The employee that I spoke with was extremely nice and stated that he would bring them later in the week. 6 weeks later and I havent been able to get in contact with anyone from the business via phone or email.
