I reported Doug Heath/Heath Mechanical to the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office. They have started a file on the company for deceptive business practices. My complaint to them reads as follows. Quick background... My father was a self employed HVAC contractor from before I was born. I answered the phone for the business and know something about air conditioners. Unfortunately, he passed away last year. During one of the heat spells this summer, my condenser unit stopped working. An acquantence gave me Doug Heath's number. He came out the next day and in under 10 minutes, my central air was running again. He came back inside holding his tablet. I asked him what the problem had been and he said it was a bad relay switch. (My dad charged $100 for the part and labor). He showed me his tablet and said that I owed him $649. I jokingly said that my lawyer doesn't make that kind of money for 10 minutes and there was no way I would pay him that. He then starts scrolling through his tablet to show me the different "packages" that he has. I didn't want a package, I wanted to know how much the parts and labor were. I took the tablet from him and scrolled through his so-called packages, I think there were 5 of them. The last one was the "Band Aid Package" for $216 and no warranty on the part. When I said that was all I would pay, he then told me that I had a bad condensate pump and that the package that included that repair was a more expensive one. Imagine that. I have never had a repair person come to my house and repair something without telling me up front how much parts and labor would be. So this thief fixed it without telling me and then tried to force me to pay his exorbinate rates for an incomplete job. I have not paid him the $216, because I am beyond angry at being ripped off and taken advantage of. More importantly, how many people has he scammed out of $649? I will pay him eventually. I am complaining to you, because I don't want it to happen to anyone else. It's not about the money. He is a scam artist looking to take advantage of people.
