How hard is it to simply cancel my car insurance policy with Bristol West? Answer? Impossible! Your company makes it incredibly complicated on such a simple request. Disgusted and wish I had dropped you sooner! I have asked repeatedly for a copy of my insurance cards and a copy of my cancellation on my insurance! I cannot EVER get the PDF's on your website to print out! Truly a sucky company with zero customer service and helpful workers. Never use Bristol West!Review from Kent Y

They are on radio saying they give you same coverage at cheaper rate. It is a big lye. I was a customer of them for 4 years. I never had a claim. This last year I was fixing to renew my auto and homeowners policies. They reduced the coverages on both policies and increased the cost through the roof. How can this be if I never had a claim on any of the policies. Who ever reads these comments. If you have insurance put claims against your policies the insurance companies are all crooks. And they are going to s**** you if they get the chance.Review from Jeanne R

My cousin died 11/16/2024. It's April 1st and they have yet to pay his life insurance to his estate, who is the beneficiary. I received a letter yesterday from them stating "We have received a claim for Group Life Insurance benefits and WILL BEGIN REVIEWING IT". It ends with "In the meantime, YOU CAN EXPECT TO RECEIVE FOLLOW-UP LETTERS EVERY 30DAYS WHILE YOUR CLAIM REMAINS PENDING." I'm thankful that I don't have 5 hungry children to feed. This is totally unacceptable. They should be ashamed of themselves and out-of-business!Review from Julie S.

No star needed.I have been on disability thru The Standard for ***************************************** back to my job. I am unable to work now. Pain gets unbearable. The standard stopped my payments after 24 months Stating I no longer was considered disable under there definition. I appealed and medical review came back as basically my payments should not have stopped. Now my claim had to go to another department for review. Its been almost 4 months and still no answer. I was told I had to apply for SSDI. I have creditors calling and late on everything. When I first was put on *** I was told I would stay on it till retirement age because that was a benefit from company I worked for. If I went on disability and monetary amount was less than what I was receiving from The Standard they would pay difference or I didnt have to accept the social security yet. Getting run around from The Standard and they dont care. Why would they. Its not them suffering. Its enough when you hurt, but ***** when you are dealing with creditors and hoping car and home doesnt get taken away.Review from Josh S

Absolutely embarrassing company. It has been over 3 months since a procedure I had and I still have not received the payment they owe me. Non-stop excuses. Avoid at all costs. Too bad you can't leave 0 stars.Review from Mollie P

I don't write these. I've worked in collections. No one is nastier or less professional than The Standard. They took months getting any funds to me because of process they'd never explained. The dates in their letters are often wrong, random dates from 3 years ago. They overpaid me $550 then demanded payment in full. When I told them that would present an economic hardship they said they could split it in two. When I said that would still present economic hardship, they said they'd send it to collections in a month and a half.I set up a $50/month bill pay through my bank hoping they'd just take it but they sent me to collections 3 weeks earlier than they told me they would.They take advantage of sick people who have trouble navigating a difficult system. I'm an expert at bureaucracy as I've worked a government job 9 years but being ill knocked me down a few levels there and I just think it would be impossible to navigate the system while ill. You HAVE to have someone helping. I'm that person in my life who helps others so I didn't have that or even understand they weren't getting the info they need.They only paid me when I told them I was thinking about killing myself so I didn't end up on the street. Then they overpaid me and sent me to a collection agency that was incredibly unprofessional and didn't even send a validation letter.Review from Reed T

The Standard Insurance Company sets the "standard" alright in poor communication, service, and timeliness of fulfillment of claims for individual disability income. I filed for disability under my policy for which I pay more than $2K per year and have done so for several years. Well, like some of the other reviewers on here who have filed complaints, the Standard will gladly take your money and then drag their feet on payout because "We're still reviewing your documents and can't make a determination"....right. My next steps: file a complaint with the **** and with the attorney general's office.The Standard Insurance company sets the standard of paying more, expecting less or nothing, and they set the standard in being sub-standard in many categories.Review from Edward W

Wish I could take stars away from them! My company uses them for their short term and long term disability. I ruptured a disc in my neck and went to my Dr at ****** Permanente. 2 weeks later I got paperwork from Standard through the mail to have my doctor fill out and return. My doctor filled out the paperwork and sent it back in. Little did I know that it was actually my doctors last day at ******. Standard mailed me back a letter saying that my claim was denied because the doctor left out 1 small bit of information. By this time the deadline for the paperwork had passed so they sent me another letter denying my leave from work because the doctors paperwork wasnt filed by their deadline. Sfter over a month of back snd forth with ****** and Standard I finally got all the paperwork corrected and filed. In the meantime, surgery, and bills piling up after the long filing times with *****. Finally they call me and tell me my claim has been approved but it ended over a month ago. But I should get back pay to the time of my accident. 4 days later I get a check for $214! Because of the pfml all the money I get from pfml is deducted and thats what was left over. But somehow what they deducted for pfml was actually more than I got paid from pfml! Now it kicks over to Long Term disability and I have to wait 90days to get paid for that!!! So Im about to lose my house, car, and pretty much everything I own because of this careless company!!!Review from Erin L

I would give 0 stars if I could! This company offers supplemental insurance through my work. I have multiple policies with them, from Hospital indemnity to accident injury. 2 months ago I got hurt requiring me to be out of work on FMLA. I have had to have multiple diagnostic tests, therapy and medical expenses due to my injury. I submitted a claim 2 months ago providing them with all of my medical records. Not only did I have to constantly reach out to them, but I also had to pay to have medical records sent to them that they requested. Every time I called it was something else they were waiting on to process my claim. It is horrible that people like myself who are suffering with medical problems but we trust in companies like this to be there when you need them. They have no problem taking my multiple premiums every 2 weeks but to deny my claim after 2 months and not even reimburse me for having to pay to have records sent to them. I am extremely disappointed in the run around treatment, and complete lack of care for their customers. Companies like this shouldn't be in business and I plan to tell the the brokers and my company about my experience so they discontinue seevices with them and it doesn't happen to someone else.Standard Insurance Company Response

Negative Stars would CERTAINLY be much more appropriate in this situation...As I read these reviews I am absolutely disgusted!! It is as if they are taking the words right out of my mouth!! It is unbelievable how this "company" is still able to operate. The hoops that we are made to jump through and the obstacles that are created (usually on a whim) are ridiculous. Depending on what employee you speak with on any given day you will get a different story. Nobody within that company is on the same page, except for the fact that they want to deny, deny, deny any claims to be paid out. As other people have stated, we are also on the verge of bankruptcy specifically because of the way this claim, or lack thereof is being handled. They're drawing it out for months on end and making it IMPOSSIBLE!!! My partner has been off for several months now due to mental health issues so I'm sure that I don't have to mention that this is not making it any better, in fact it's doing the exact opposite. He is a military veteran and his doctors are employed by the VA. He is starting the appeal process at this time because the standard denied him because of lack of medical notes during office visits. It is basically coming down to the fact that he doesn't see his psychiatrist enough. She has documented and given them the information stating that it is in her expert medical opinion that he be off of work until she believes that he is equipped to return. Once again.. not good enough!! We just cannot understand how "their" doctors and case examiners can override the decision and opinion of a government employed veterans affairs psychiatrist.
