When I opened my account with Bank of Eastern Oregon I singed up for a service that would not allow over drafting. I had to pay $25.00 dollars to sign up for it. I did, I paid my $25.00. Every thing was fine until July,5,2022 when my account with Bank of Eastern Oregon was negative $138.41. I checked it the night before and there were purchases bought from Amazon that had the money pulled from my account but hadn't finished processing for almost a week before hand. I had checked my balance July 4th and my online bank account had $140.00 in it. I made some purchases from Amazon. By the morning of the 5th I was negative $138.41 dollars. I went to the **** day branch on the 5th to ask why my account was negative. They said there was nothing they could do ,even though it was the way they process their accounts that caused me to go negative, and that the service I paid for was canceled last year. Which I never received any notification for or refund for, and that when my direct deposit check went into my account that $138.41 wouldbe taken out. I understand that I made the purchases and am liable for the money spent, however if my account didn't have adequate money in it I would not have made further purchases. Which is the sole purpose of the service that I paid them for that they are not honoring. I want my $25.00 back since they will not honor a pre existing service. And then upon complaining about their lack of service to them I am now locked out of my online account, which is what makes the account free. I suspect they will be now switching me to paper statements and trying to charge me for it. This portion of the complaint is purely evidentiary in case they try. The bottom line is I paid for a service they refused to provide I want my money back.Business response

Complainants recollection is incorrect. We have never charged an up-front fee of $25 for any type of service. The issue appears to pertain to Bounce, an overdraft service where overdrafts up to a certain limit were covered as opposed to being returned, but would still incur a non-sufficient funds fee, which was $25 per item at that time. There was also the option of declining or requesting to remove the Overdraft Protection service on an account. In those instances, the item would have been returned if no funds were available, but a $25 non-sufficient funds charge would still have been charged, either with or without enrollment in the Bounce program.
We discontinued the Bounce program in July 2021. The cancellation notices were messages placed on monthly statements notifying customers of the change.
The Amazon purchases are beyond our control. The presentment of debit card charges is done electronically. Evidently there were additional items that cleared the account before the Amazon items cleared. It is the customers responsibility to keep track of their own spending.
