Consumer affairs offered a "review" of life monitoring services, but to access the "review," you had to provide your name, email address, and phone number. It was not explicitly stated that your information would be sold to these companies. The "review" was actually just a listing of the companies that paid for this. It was not a review at all. And furthermore, within 5 minutes of reading this so-called review, each of the companies began calling and emailing me incessantly. Some of them call, but don't email, so there's no "unsubscribe" button. You have to pick up and tell them to stop. So if you miss the call, they just keep leaving voicemails. They call at inappropriate times (8pm). I would like consumer affairs to explicitly stated that it sells your contact information to businesses and not to advertise its services as being a "review" of products. It's just an advertisement that suckers you into providing your information to other third parties.

I just went to Consumer Affairs to read negative reviews on Meow Mix catfood! I then wrote my personal review about 4 of my cats that died after eating said catfood! I filled out my email & it kept saying to add an email? I then received email from Consumer Affairs to click on site! Finally site wanted name of company so I put in J M Smucker company but site kept saying no such company? So I was unable to send in my review so I got off of site! Then immediately I receive an email for a carfood ad? I went back to Consumer Affairs to delete my account, especiall my phone number since I dont want calls from other companies! Of course I couldn't find any info on how to delete my account so I came here for help! Getting an email for catfood after trying to write a catfood review seems awfully suspicious?

A representative from Consumer Affairs (ConsumerAffairs.com) called me to solicit feedback about a moving company I had recently hired, and the representative claimed to be calling from the moving company itself. I believe I received the call on September 14th, 2022 at around 4pm. I had already provided feedback to the moving company itself and I told the representative as much; she pretended to be confused that my call with the moving company wasn't showing up in her system, as though she herself worked for the moving company. She asked for my feedback anyway, which was overwhelmingly positive. She prompted me to provide critical feedback that I didn't even provide to the moving company because it was so insignificant, but it appears that my small bit of critical feedback was featured prominently when Consumer Affairs posted my review. (I am unable to view the review on the Consumer Affairs website myself, so I can't revise, report, or dispute it.) I gave consent to post my review with my name because I thought I was providing a testimonial directly to the moving company, not to a third-party organization. The representative was intentionally misleading and used this call to obtain my personal information and review to benefit a third-party company, which I would not have consented to if I had been informed. I want my review to be removed from their site, I want my personal information to be removed from their system(s), and I insist that they be reprimanded for being intentionally misleading when calling consumers.

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/09/22) */ Upon review of the phone call recordings, it does appear that the ConsumerAffairs representative identified herself as calling on behalf of the mover and stated she was from ConsumerAffairs. The review has been removed as of 9/19/2022 and we apologize for any confusion. Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2022/09/23) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) The caller did not clearly identify herself as a Consumer Affairs employee until the end of the call--after obtaining my information and my consent to share my review. It seems that it is a technique of Consumer Affairs to impersonate other businesses in order to obtain reviews. If I was misled by this call, I can only assume others have been misled as well. This is a problem, and consumers should know about it. Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2022/09/27) */ Thank you for your response.

I was asked to leave a review on a product I purchased ************** on ConsumerAffairs website. No where did it say they would use my Name AND Location publicly. They have shared my name and location publicly with the review. They give no way of changing it or deleting it. I take my safety and privacy very serious. And i do not what my Name and Location public.

I put my phone number in as part of an add to provide pricing for walk-in bathtubs and the phone immediately started ringing. Within 1-2 minutes I had 23 phone calls blocked by ******** as suspected spam. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR PHONE NUMBER OR EMAIL
